Susanne Paul's MOVE String Quartet explores a unique, very European vision of jazz. This fresh take on the string quartet roams new sounds and styles, shaping them into intense chamber music, always subtly rooted in groove. Rock energy and intricate textures, tongues in cheeks and dirty fingernails - the music is all about listening to the space between the notes.
Band leader Susanne Paul grew up in the USA and Germany. She plays jazz and world music in various bands. On the cello, she has developed a characteristic, colorful playing style that combines groove, improvisation and innovative playing techniques. Her musical focuses are jazz, flamenco, tango, funk, baroque, italian folklore and punk. As a composer, she blends these influences into an own distinct style. Among others, collaborations with Uwe Kropinski, Etta Scollo, Michel Godard, Arkady Shilkloper, String Thing, and Georg Breinschmid. Performances at the Schleswig-Holstein-Musikfestival, Bregenzer Festspiele, Schwetzinger Festspiele, Milanesiana Milano, Mawazine Festival Rabat, Masala-Worldbeat-Festival Hannover, Kultursommer Oldenburg, Strings of Fire Leipzig, Donaueschinger Tage für Neue Musik, Jazzfestival Göttingen, etc.
Carlos Bica is renowned for his unmistakeable singing style of playing the bass, evoking his portuguese roots. He is a band leader of a number of internationally touring jazz projects such as Azul, Diz, Matéria-Prima, and has collaborated with many celebrated musicians such as Ray Anderson, Kenny Wheeler, Aki Takase, Maria João, Julian Arguelles, Steve Arguelles, Lee Konitz, Mário Laginha, Mathias Schubert, João Paulo, Antonio Pinho Vargas, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Albert Mangelsdorf, Joey Baron, Claudio Puntin, John Zorn, Paolo Fresu, Markus Stockhausen. He has performed at the Cairo Jazz Festival, Douro Jazz Festival, Casa da Música Porto, Festa do Jazz Lisboa, Timisoara Jazz Festival, Jazz Festival Brugge, Festival Jazzebre, Jazz Festival Belfast, Robert Schumann Festival Düsseldorf, Jazz International Rotterdam, etc.
Ger∂ur Gunnarsdóttir grew up in Iceland and plays classical music as well as genre-crossing projects. She has collaborated with Nils Wogram, Claudio Puntin, Vince Mendoza, Michael Schriefel, and Julia Hülsmann and more (CD recordings with ECM, ACT and more).
Susanne Paul's MOVE String Quartet pflegt einen eigenen Streichquartettsound aus filigranen Grooves und rockiger Energie, mit subtilem Humor und dreckigen Fingernägeln. Frische, kraftvolle Kammermusik, die viel Platz läßt - eine sehr europäische Vision von Jazz.
Die Bandleaderin Susanne Paul ist in den USA und Deutschland aufgewachsen. Sie spielt Jazz und Weltmusik in verschiedenen Formationen. ENTRANCE FEES
One of the reasons that makes the zig zag jazz club so unique is that it is the first and only jazz club in the world that manages to finance world class events through a donation/crowd funding concept. How do we do it? Its quite simple… during the break of the concert we make an announcement regarding the collection for the evening. For most concerts (excluding the jam session) we inform our customers that a donation of around 15€ per person will allow us to fairly compensate the musicians. Some people give more and some give less… and that´s ok… we ´ve already successfully promoted hundreds of concerts like this!!!
EINTRITT
Einer der Gründe, die den Zig Zag Jazzclub so einzigartig machen, ist, dass er der erste und einzige Jazzclub der Welt ist, dem es gelingt nur durch Spenden/Crowdfunding Events von Weltklasse zu finanzieren. Und wie machen wir das? Ganz einfach. Während der Konzertpause geben wir bekannt, dass wir Geld einsammeln werden. Bei den meisten Konzerten (außer Jam Sessions) informieren wir unsere Kunden, dass eine Spende von ungefähr 15 Euro es uns erlaubt die Musiker gerecht zu bezahlen. Manche geben dabei mehr und andere weniger... und das ist auch in Ordnung. Wir haben auf diese Weise schon Hunderte Konzerte organisiert.
