The three musicians of German, Austrian and American origin met in their current home-base Berlin and have been playing extensively as a Trio for over three years.
“Drift” (shoebill music, 2016) is their debut recording. It features compositions by guitarist Johannes Haage and drummer Joe Smith which offer a great variety of stylistic starting points from which they embark on new musical journeys together, creating open spaces for spontaneous improvisation and mutual interplay. As in a dreamlike state, their music drifts from sparse to dense, from pop-like structures to free improvisation - but always staying true to the melody of the song and the calling of the moment.
Die drei Musiker aus Deutschland, Österreich und den USA trafen sich in ihrer gemeinsamen Wahlheimat Berlin und spielen seit mehreren Jahren in dieser Besetzung zusammen.
Im Januar 2016 erschien ihr Debut Album “Drift” auf shoebill music.
Das Trio arbeitet heute vornehmlich mit den Songs und Kompositionen des Gitarristen Johannes Haage und des Schlagzeugers Joe Smith. Hier geht es um die stets neue, gemeinsame Entwicklung des oft sparsam instrumentierten Materials im spontan-improvisatorischen Raum. Dabei driftet die Musik von karg zu verdichtet, von Song-Strukturen zu freierer Improvisation, bleibt dabei jedoch immer der Melodie des jeweiligen Stücks und der Einzigartigkeit des Moments treu.

ENTRANCE FEES
One of the reasons that makes the zig zag jazz club so unique is that it is the first and only jazz club in the world that manages to finance world class events through a donation/crowd funding concept. How do we do it? Its quite simple… during the break of the concert we make an announcement regarding the collection for the evening. For most concerts (excluding the jam session) we inform our customers that a donation of around 15€ per person will allow us to fairly compensate the musicians. Some people give more and some give less… and that´s ok… we ´ve already successfully promoted hundreds of concerts like this!!!
EINTRITT
Einer der Gründe, die den Zig Zag Jazzclub so einzigartig machen, ist, dass er der erste und einzige Jazzclub der Welt ist, dem es gelingt nur durch Spenden/Crowdfunding Events von Weltklasse zu finanzieren. Und wie machen wir das? Ganz einfach. Während der Konzertpause geben wir bekannt, dass wir Geld einsammeln werden. Bei den meisten Konzerten (außer Jam Sessions) informieren wir unsere Kunden, dass eine Spende von ungefähr 15 Euro es uns erlaubt die Musiker gerecht zu bezahlen. Manche geben dabei mehr und andere weniger... und das ist auch in Ordnung. Wir haben auf diese Weise schon Hunderte Konzerte organisiert.
