The Jazz Messengers were an influential jazz combo that existed for over thirty-five years beginning in the early 1950's as a collective, and ending when long-time leader and founding drummer Art Blakey died in 1990, the bands music is high energy, super well arranged and virtuous, making this tribute concert an exciting, fun, soulful and swingy night!
-Ben Kraef is a German-Montenegrin saxophonist and composer based in Berlin, In 2007 he relocated to New York City on a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and obtained a Master of Arts from The City College of New York in 2009.
-Andrej Ugoljew, raised in Berlin and Moscow just finished his European Jazzmaster Studies in Berlin, Paris and Copenhagen. Currently he is working on his first releases with his band Andrej Ugoljew's Dunkelgold.
-Born in Tel-Aviv, Uri Gincel came to berlin in 2009 and quickly became one of the most in demand piano players on the scene, Uri toured the world with many projects, including "Uri Gincel Trio”, “Bonaparte", "Frittenbude", "Tyoma", and studied under some major musicians as Arnie Lawrence and Walter Blending Jr.
Uri has been hosting the ZigZag jam session and been a part of the clubs roster for the last 3 years playing many concerts and tributes with musicians from all over the world.
Guitarist Carl Morgan is a new addition to the Berlin jazz scene after relocating from Sydney, Australia in late 2018.
In 2014 he received first place at the National Jazz Awards, Australia’s most coveted prize for emerging jazz musicians under the age of 35.
Carl has played with many Australian and International musicians including Chris Potter, Maria Schneider, James Morrison. Recently he was featured on pianist Barney McAll’s ‘Hearing the Blood’ album which received 3 ‘Bell’ Awards and received an ARIA nomination.
-Yonatan Levi is a 29-year-old musician born in Tel-Aviv, Israel. Displaying musical tendencies since infancy, he was sent to an esteemed school of arts between ages 6-16, growing within the music, He was later honored a full scholarship to the prestigious Berkley College of Music. In 2006 he moved to New York City and immersed himself in the New York Jazz world, Levi is currently based in Berlin, Germany, but is constantly on the road between Europe, the US and Israel.
-Eric Vaughn, Son of (Jazz drummer) Robert Vaughn is the Owner Operator of Naked Jazz/ Arts Branding, From Savannah/Atlanta Georgia. Inducted to Coastal Jazz Hall of fame (Class Of 2014) . Jazz Curator - Werkstatt der Kulturen, The Hat- Bar Berlin. Inventor of Living Art Time.

Einer der Gründe, die den Zig Zag Jazzclub so einzigartig machen, ist, dass er der erste und einzige Jazzclub der Welt ist, dem es gelingt nur durch freiwilligem Eintritt/Crowdfunding Events von Weltklasse zu finanzieren. Und wie machen wir das? Ganz einfach. Während der Konzertpause geben wir bekannt, dass wir Geld einsammeln werden. Bei den meisten Konzerten (außer Jam Sessions) informieren wir unsere Kunden, dass ein Beitrag von ungefähr 15 Euro es uns erlaubt die Musiker gerecht zu bezahlen. Manche geben dabei mehr und andere weniger... und das ist auch in Ordnung. Wir haben auf diese Weise schon Hunderte Konzerte organisiert.
One of the reasons that makes the zig zag jazz club so unique is that it is the first and only jazz club in the world that manages to finance world class events through a crowd funding concept. How do we do it? Its quite simple… during the break of the concert we make an announcement regarding the collection for the evening. For most concerts (excluding the jam session) we inform our customers that a fee of around 15€ per person will allow us to fairly compensate the musicians. Some people give more and some give less… and that´s ok… we ´ve already successfully promoted hundreds of concerts like this!!!
