The ever-surprising JORGE ROSSY! World-famous as the drummer with which Brad Mehldau redefined the art of the trio, he was first a trumpet player before switching for a time to the piano... And yet it is as a vibraphonist that he has been recording and performing in the past few years, an instrument which for him is the ideal combination of the percussive nature of the drums with the polyphony of a keyboard and a true melodic dimension. Based on solid friendships, his Vibes Quintet presents an all-star cast: the refined purity of the American saxophonist Mark Turner, the startlingly Monk-like phrasing of Catalan guitarist Jaume Llombart, and the superlative rhythm section of acoustic bassist Doug Weiss and legendary drummer Billy Hart. Luminous, nuanced, and with subtle interplay, the music not only reveals the range of talents of one of the major musicians of our time, but is above all a major opus of modern jazz, for which the quality of the soloists is constantly sublimated by the magic of the improvising.

“Jorge Rossy’s work as a drummer has been so celebrated that casual listeners may be unaware of his chops as a multi-instrumentalist. His repertoire of skills includes trumpet and piano, and further extends his range to vibraphone and marimba (…). Rossy’s approach to the mallets is as clean and melodically engaged as his drumming. He tackles his solos from a shade behind the beat, giving his lines the subtlest flavoring of tension and drama.” - JazzTimes

MARK TURNER
In a career that spans two decades and encompasses a broad array of musical ventures, saxophonist Mark Turner has emerged as a towering presence in the jazz community. With a distinctive, personal tone, singular improvisational skills and an innovative, challenging compositional approach, he’s earned a far-reaching reputation as one of jazz’s most original and influential musical forces.

JAUME LLOMBART
Born into a musical family in Igualada, a small town near Barcelona, Jaume became interested in music at a young age. In 2001 he moved to Barcelona where he attended the Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya, graduating in 2005 with a degree in jazz guitar. He has participated in national and international festivals, concerts and recordings alongside artists such as Jorge Rossy, Bill McHerny, RJ Miller, Felix Rossy, Joe Smith and Chris Cheek among many others. After working and recording as a sideman for over ten years, Jaume created a sextet in 2011 with the intention of exploring his own compositions. He released his album "Magenta" to international critical acclaim in April 2015 on the label Fresh Sound New Talent. His latest recorded work is a solo guitar album, released by the label Underpool. He can also be heard playing electric bass alongside Jorge Rossy and Steve Cardenas on Chris Cheek's new album Saturday Songs. Most recently he has been touring with Jorge Rossy, Mark Turner, Doug Weiss and Al Foster.

ROBERT LANDFERMANN
If one reads the list of recordings published to date with his collaboration, one is astonished that Robert Landfermann was only born in 1982 - and thus looks back on a relatively young career. He was and is represented in dozens of very different formations - from Matthias Schriefls "Shreefpunk" over Christian Lillingers "Grund" and the quartet of trumpeter Frederik Köster to the trio of harpist Kathrin Pechlof and the trio formation "Grünen" with drummer Christian Lillinger and pianist Achim Kaufmann. Landfermann has also worked with jazz idols of the older generation such as Joachim Kühn, Tomasz Stanko, Django Bates, John Taylor, Lee Konitz and not to forget John Scofield. He has received various prizes, including the WDR Jazz Prize, the New German Jazz Prize and the SWR Jazz Prize. And when he had long been successful in various groups, he took the concert exam with bass professor Dieter Manderscheid in Cologne - after studying jazz double bass, which was preceded by classical guitar lessons from the age of seven and playing electric bass until 1998.

JEFF BALLARD
Jeff Ballard (* 17 September 1963 in Santa Cruz, California) is an American drummer of modern jazz. Jeff Ballard, who heard his father's jazz records as a child, studied music theory at the local Cabrillo Community College, attended Jamey Aebersold's training camps, and began playing in small bands. In 1986 he moved to San Francisco, where he worked with trumpeters Ray Brown, Smith Dobson and Harvey Wainapel. He then joined Ray Charles' band in 1988, where he stayed for 3 years. In 1990 he moved to New York City, where he performed with musicians such as Buddy Montgomery, Lou Donaldson, Eddie Harris, Herman Foster, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Avishai Cohen, Guillermo Klein and Ben Allison (Medicine Wheel, 1998).
