In diesem Konzert lädt das Babylon ORCHESTRA vier Gastmusiker aus der Ukraine zu einem Abend voller ukrainischer Folk- und Jazzmusik ein, die exklusiv für das Babylon ORCHESTRA arrangiert wurde, um die Schönheit der Melodien und Improvisationen aus dem europäischen Osten zu entdecken.
Das Babylon ORCHESTRA ist ein junges Berliner Ensemble für urbane nahöstliche Musik - bestehend aus zirka 15 MusikerInnen und SängerInnen aus Syrien, Iran, Irak, Israel, Russland, Italien, Frankreich, Kurdistan und Deutschland. Die Idee zu dessen Gründung kam Mischa Tangian und Sofia Surgutschowa Anfang 2016, als sie nach einer ganz persönlichen Antwort und Reaktion auf eine sich verändernde Welt mit neuen Formen des kulturellen Miteinanders suchten.

Ziel des Orchesters ist es, den künstlerischen Austausch zwischen den musikalischen Kulturen des Nahen und Mittleren Ostens und den musikalischen Kulturen Europas zu fördern. Das Ensemble erarbeitet ein Repertoire, das eine Verbindung zwischen traditioneller nahöstlicher Musik und zeitgenössisch-moderner Musik mit urbanen Elementen der Berliner Musikszene in Einklang bringt.

Das Ensemble fördert insbesondere neue Kreationen, in die sich MusikerInnen aus allen Kulturkreisen einbringen können, da es nur in einer zeitgemäßen Musik eine Chance für einen ehrlichen, persönlichen künstlerischen Ausdruck sieht und die Weiterentwicklung der musikalischen Sprache als Möglichkeit für den Anschluss der Tradition an das Heute und Jetzt versteht.

Eines der weitergehenden Ziele ist es, die Mitglieder des Orchesters dabei zu unterstützen, in Deutschland und Europa musikalisch Fuß zu fassen und somit aktiv und kreativ zur Integration beizutragen. Dies hilft den geflüchteten MusikerInnen eine Basis in ihrer neuen Heimat aufzubauen. Auch die europäischen MusikerInnen gewinnen durch die Zusammenarbeit und können durch das Orchester ihre Neigung zur nahöstlichen Musik professionell weiterentwickeln.

Das Debutalbum des Orchestras hat als bisherige Krönung des Schaffens 2020 den Preis des deutschen Schallplattenkritik erhalten.

Yuriy Seredin ist ukrainischer Pianist, der sowohl Professor für Jazzklavier und Komposition an der Nationalen Musikakademie in Lwiw ist, als auch Begründer der bekannten Jazzsessions im Barman Dictat in Kiew.
Andrew Arnautov ist ukrainischer Jazzbassist, Komponist und Musikproduzent, der seit 1991 sein Leben zwischen den USA und der Ukraine teilt und auf zahlreichen weltweiten Festivals auftritt. Er trat mit Legenden wie Lew Soloff, David Friesen, Roy Hargrove und Tom Browne auf.
Denys Karachevsev ist Cellist aus Kharkiv, der seit 2021 Cello an der Kunstuniversität Kharkiv lehrt und Mitbegründer des Kammermusikprojekts Akustikos Art Group ist. 2022 kam sein Solo-Album "Kharkiv. Songs of War" heraus.
Evgeny Abin ist ukrainischer Saxophonist, der seit 2021 Mitglied des des Nationalen Philharmonischen Orchesters in Kiev ist und vorher auf vielen internationalen Kreuzfahrtschiffen als Saxophonist unterwegs war.
Mischa Tangian ist Komponist, Geiger und künstlerischer Leiter des vielseitigen Babylon ORCHESTRA, der seine Zeit zwischen dem Schreiben von Opern, Stücken für die verschiedenen Stilrichtungen des Babylon ORCHESTRA und Bearbeitungen bestehender Werke von Komponisten aus aller Welt aufteilt.
Vladimir Karparov ist ein bulgarischer Klarinettist, dessen Stil durch die ungewöhnlich gelungene Verschmelzung von zeitgenössischem Jazz und der rhythmischen und melodischen Farbe der lebendigen bulgarischen Volksmusik gekennzeichnet ist.
Nils Marquardt ist ein deutscher Posaunist, der regelmäßig mit dem Babylon ORCHESTRA zusammenarbeitet, ebenso wie mit dem Magnetic Ghost Orchestra, dem Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble und Yuliesky Gonzalez & Tierra Caliente.

In this concert, Babylon ORCHESTRA invites four guest musicians from Ukraine for an evening of Ukrainian folk and jazz music arranged exclusively for Babylon ORCHESTRA to discover the beauty of melodies and improvisations from the European East.

The Babylon ORCHESTRA is a young Berlin ensemble for urban Middle Eastern music - consisting of about 15 musicians and singers from Syria, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Russia, Italy, France, Kurdistan and Germany. The idea for its foundation came to Mischa Tangian and Sofia Surgutschowa at the beginning of 2016, when they were looking for a very personal answer and reaction to a changing world with new forms of cultural coexistence.

The goal of the orchestra is to promote artistic exchange between the musical cultures of the Middle East and the musical cultures of Europe. The ensemble develops a repertoire that balances a connection between traditional Middle Eastern music and contemporary-modern music with urban elements of the Berlin music scene.

The ensemble particularly encourages new creations in which musicians from all cultural backgrounds can participate, since it sees only in contemporary music a chance for honest, personal artistic expression and understands the further development of musical language as a way of connecting tradition to the present and the now.

One of the broader goals is to support the members of the orchestra in gaining a musical foothold in Germany and Europe, thus contributing actively and creatively to integration. This helps the refugee musicians to build a foundation in their new homeland. The European musicians also gain from the cooperation and can professionally develop their inclination towards Middle Eastern music through the orchestra.

The debut album of the orchestra has received the German Record Critics Award in 2020 as the crowning achievement so far.

Denys Karachevsev is a cellist from Kharkiv who has taught cello at Kharkiv Art University since 2021 and is co-founder of the chamber music project Akustikos Art Group. In 2022, his solo album "Kharkiv. Songs of War."

Misha Tangian is a composer, violinist and artistic director of the versatile Babylon ORCHESTRA, who divides his time between writing operas, pieces for the various styles of the Babylon ORCHESTRA and arrangements of existing works by composers from around the world.

Vladimir Karparov is a Bulgarian clarinetist whose style is characterized by an unusually successful fusion of contemporary jazz and the rhythmic and melodic color of vibrant Bulgarian folk music.

Nils Marquardt is a German trombonist who regularly collaborates with the Babylon ORCHESTRA, as well as with the Magnetic Ghost Orchestra, the Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble and Yuliesky Gonzalez & Tierra Caliente.
