James Carter gehört zur obersten Riege der Saxophonwelt. Carter, who counts Coltrane among his greatest inspirations, gives this tribute his own distinctive touch and has developed a special program with his organ trio, a formation otherwise known for its sweaty blend of soul jazz, funk, and blues. James Carter belongs to the very top tier of the international saxophone scene. He shines across the entire spectrum of woodwind instruments through his deep connection to the jazz tradition, his stylistic versatility — allowing him to move effortlessly from Dixieland to free jazz — and his astonishing virtuosity. Carter hails from Detroit, where he first gained attention before moving to New York City in 1990. Since then he has been in high demand both as a sideman and as a respected bandleader. He has released albums on labels such as Blue Note Records and has collaborated with artists including Wynton Marsalis, Ginger Baker, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Marcus Miller, and Christian McBride, among many others.
