Das kubanische Quintett Espirales verbindet kubanische Musik und Jazz mit dem Klang und der Arbeitsweise eines Kammermusikensembles. Gegründet wurde die Band 2023 von Pianist Rodrigo García Ameneiro und Violinistin Tania Haase, die bereits seit 2014 gemeinsam als Espiral Duo arbeiten. Mit Olivia Rodríguez Caballero, Jesús Estrada und Alejandro Aguiar wurde aus dem Duo schließlich ein Quintett.
Alle fünf Musiker studierten an der Universidad de las Artes (ISA) in Havanna und bringen unterschiedliche Erfahrungen aus klassischer und kubanischer Musik sowie Jazz in das Ensemble ein. Seit seiner Gründung trat Espirales in Kuba, den USA und Europa auf und veröffentlichte zwei Studioalben.
Der Pianist, Komponist und Produzent Rodrigo García Ameneiro wurde 1998 in Havanna geboren und studierte zunächst am Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán bei Aldo López-Gavilán, später an der Universidad de las Artes. Gemeinsam mit Tania Haase gründete er bereits 2014 das Espiral Duo, aus dem später Espirales hervorging. Als Pianist bewegt er sich zwischen klassischer Musik, kubanischer Musik und Jazz.
Die Violinistin und Sängerin Tania Haase absolvierte die Universidad de las Artes mit Auszeichnung und ist stellvertretende Konzertmeisterin des Havana Chamber Orchestra. Gemeinsam mit Rodrigo García bildet sie das mehrfach ausgezeichnete Espiral Duo und gehört zu den Gründungsmitgliedern von Espirales.
Die Kontrabassistin Olivia Rodríguez Caballero studierte ebenfalls an der Universidad de las Artes in Havanna. Ihre musikalische Arbeit umfasst sowohl klassische als auch populäre kubanische Musik und bildet im Quintett das Bindeglied zwischen kammermusikalischem Ensemblespiel und Rhythmusgruppe.
Die kubanischen Perkussionisten Jesús Estrada und Alejandro Aguiar komplettieren die Besetzung von Espirales. Beide studierten an der Universidad de las Artes und arbeiten mit unterschiedlichen Formen kubanischer, klassischer und zeitgenössischer Musik. Im Quintett bilden sie gemeinsam die zweiköpfige Percussion-Sektion.
The Cuban quintet Espirales combines Cuban music and jazz with the sound and approach of a chamber music ensemble. The group was founded in 2023 by pianist Rodrigo García Ameneiro and violinist Tania Haase, who had already been working together as the Espiral Duo since 2014. With Olivia Rodríguez Caballero, Jesús Estrada and Alejandro Aguiar, the duo eventually expanded into a quintet.
All five musicians studied at the Universidad de las Artes (ISA) in Havana and bring different experiences from classical and Cuban music as well as jazz to the ensemble. Since its formation, Espirales has performed in Cuba, the United States and Europe and has recorded two studio albums.

Double bassist Olivia Rodríguez Caballero also studied at the Universidad de las Artes in Havana. Her musical work encompasses both classical and popular Cuban music, and within the quintet she forms the link between chamber-music ensemble playing and the rhythm section.
Cuban percussionists Jesús Estrada and Alejandro Aguiar complete the line-up of Espirales. Both studied at the Universidad de las Artes and work with different forms of Cuban, classical and contemporary music. Together, they form the quintet’s two-piece percussion section.
