Virtuosic guitar runs, powerful piano playing and the rich textures of violin and cello: the Jeff Aug / Murat Parlak Quintet combines the energy of jazz rock with the sophistication of acoustic chamber music! At the heart of the ensemble are American fingerstyle guitarist Jeff Aug, who has toured with fusion legend Allan Holdsworth, and versatile pianist and composer Murat Parlak. Together with three fellow musicians, they create a distinctive instrumental sound moving between jazz, rock fusion and world music, drawing inspiration from the great fusion recordings of the 1970s and the acoustic music of the Windham Hill label.
The five musicians share a long history of performing with British new wave and spoken-word artist Anne Clark. The idea for their own ensemble first emerged in 2012, when Aug and Parlak began working on compositions that called for more than a solo recording. Almost fifteen years later, their collaborative debut album is set for release in February 2027, finally bringing this musical partnership to the stage!
Jeff Aug was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Maryland. His musical roots lie in the American punk and alternative rock scene before he turned increasingly towards acoustic fingerstyle guitar in the mid-1990s. Alongside a solo career that has taken him across Europe and the United States for decades, he appears on Atari Teenage Riot's album “Is This Hyperreal?” and leads the instrumental rock band Ape Shifter. His album “Living Room Sessions” reached number one on the US iTunes Acoustic Music Charts. In 2009 and 2012, he also set two Guinness World Records for performing the most concerts in different countries within 24 hours.
Murat Parlak is a pianist, composer and arranger from Germany's Allgäu region whose work encompasses jazz, classical music, rock and electronic music. A member of Anne Clark's band since 2002, he has also worked with Branford Marsalis and Vinnie Colaiuta, served as musical director at the Staatstheater Stuttgart and collaborated with actor Dominique Horwitz. His work as a composer includes radio dramas and productions for several German public broadcasters.
