2026 startet mit einem ganz besonderen Event: Nach den umjubelten Konzerten im vergangenen Jahr heißen wir erneut den großartigen Kelvin Sholar willkommen. Auch dieses Mal widmen wir Kelvin gleich zwei Abende, an denen er uns gemeinsam mit seinem Quintett bahnbrechenden und mitreißenden Modern Jazz in Reinkultur präsentiert. Die Band spielt seit über 10 Jahren zusammen und präsentiert nun ihr neues Album “Renaissance” , welches Inspiration aus einer Vielfalt von Quellen zieht: Von Detroit Techno, Soul, Stravinsky, bis hin zu Stevie Wonder und dem Regisseur Wes Anderson, in dessen letzten Film Sholars Trio einen Cameo-Auftritt hatte. Freuen Sie sich auf ein einzigartiges Konzert voll eindringlicher Energie, Virtuosität und Tiefe.

Kelvin Lamar Sholar ist ein Pianist und Keyboarder aus Detroit, Michigan. Er begann als Gospelsänger mit seinen Eltern, entwickelte sich aber später zum Klassik- und Jazzpianisten und gewann mit sechzehn Jahren den Wettbewerb des Michigan Bach Festivals. Sholar arbeitete zunächst mit lokalen Künstlern (wie Marcus Belgrave oder Francisco Mora-Catlett), bevor er auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene mit Jazz-Größen wie Wallace Roney, Kevin Saunderson, Mark Turner, Greg Osby, Caron Wheeler, Jerry Gonzales oder John Tchicai auftrat. Seine Arbeit beschränkt sich allerdings nicht nur auf den Jazz: Er kollaborierte auch mit Stevie Wonder, Star-Geiger Nigel Kennedy und Techno-Pionier Carl Craig.

Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq ist seit 1972 professionell als Musiker tätig. Nach seinem College-Abschluss absolvierte er ein Postgraduiertenstudium bei dem verstorbenen großen afro-amerikanischen Pianisten Horace Tapscott und der UGMAA (Union of God's Musicians and Artist Ascension) in Los Angeles, Kalifornien. Dies führte zu einer lebenslangen Zusammenarbeit mit Tapscotts Pan-African People's Arkestra (PAPA), in der er als Assistenzdirigent, Arrangeur, Komponist und Texter tätig war, um seine Aufgaben am Saxophon, der Klarinette und der Flöte zu begleiten. 1991 kam Fuasi nach Berlin, wo er sich einen Namen in der Jazzszene der Stadt machte. In den letzten 23 Jahren tourte Fuasi durch Europa, Asien, Afrika und Mittelamerika, er leitete seine eigenen Ensembles wie Fuasi & Ensemble, The Ebony Big Band Experience, The Horace Tapscott Memorial Ensemble und die Afro Cubano Latin Jazz Connection.

Tobias Netta ist einer der führenden deutschen Jaztrompeter. Er studierte in den 1980er Jahren an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Köln und arbeitete in den folgenden Jahren international erfolgreich als Leader und Sideman. Nach Stationen in Hamburg und New York zog es ihn nach Berlin, wo er derzeit lebt und wirkt. Er arbeitete mit Avantagrade-Legenden wie Cecil Taylor und Gunter Hampel, ist aber auch auf populären Produktionen wie bspw. von Udo Jürgens zu hören.

Charles Sammons ist ein amerikanischer Bassist, Komponist und Pädagoge. Sammons ist auf dem Kontrabass, dem E-Bass und dem Cello gleichermaßen zu Hause. Obwohl er fest in der Tradition verankert ist, stößt er oft an die Grenzen von Jazz, Electronica, Rock und Pop. Im Alter von 14 Jahren begann Charles Sammons ein Studium der Komposition und Performance an der University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Sein Studium setzte er allerdings in den Clubs und Jazzkellern von Washington fort, wo er seine einzigartige und innovative Spielweise perfektionierte Seit 10 Jahren lebt und arbeitet Samens nun in Berlin, wo er ein unverzichtbarer Teil der hiesigen Jazz-Szene geworden ist.

Eric Vaughn, Jazz-Schlagzeuger, Komponist und Bandleader, machte in der Band von Freddy Cole erste Schritte auf internationalem Parkett. 1995 fungierte Eric Vaughn als künstlerischer Leiter des Atlanta Jazz Festivals und produzierte 1996 eine CD mit Originalmusik für das Savoy Jazz Label. Von 1996 bis 2007 leitete Eric Vaughn Jazz-Trios an Bord der Carnival-Kreuzfahrtflotte. Seit 2008 wohnt Vaughn in Berlin. Er hat im Laufe seiner Karriere als Komponist und Arrangeur sowohl mit CNN als auch mit Walt Disney, während er als Schlagzeuger mit Musikern wie James Moody, Cedar Walton, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Nicolas Payton, Freddie Hubbard und Jon Faddis zusammengearbeitet, getourt und Aufnahmen gemacht hat.

Once again, we have the honor of welcoming the fantastic Kelvin Sholar! This time, we're dedicating two full evenings to Kelvin as he presents his trio—undoubtedly one of the finest ensembles of its kind in Germany and beyond. The band has been performing together for over ten years and now unveils their new album “Renaissance”, which draws inspiration from a wide range of sources: from Detroit Techno, Soul, and Stravinsky to Stevie Wonder and filmmaker Wes Anderson, whose latest movie features a cameo by Sholar’s trio. Kelvin Lamar Sholar is a pianist and keyboardist from Detroit, Michigan. Tobias Netta is one of Germany’s leading jazz trumpeters. He studied at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne in the 1980s and went on to build an internationally successful career as both a bandleader and sideman. After periods in Hamburg and New York, he eventually settled in Berlin, where he currently lives and works. Netta has collaborated with avant-garde legends such as Cecil Taylor and Gunter Hampel, but can also be heard on more popular productions, including those of Udo Jürgens.

Charles Sammons is an American bassist, composer, and educator. Sammons is equally at home on the double bass, electric bass and cello. Although firmly rooted in tradition, he often pushes the boundaries of jazz, electronica, rock and pop. At the age of 14, Charles Sammons began studying composition and performance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. However, he continued his studies in the clubs and jazz basements of Washington, where he perfected his unique and innovative style of playing For the past 10 years, Samens now lives and works in Berlin, where he has become an indispensable part of the local jazz scene.

Eric Vaughn, jazz drummer, composer and bandleader, took his first steps on the international stage in Freddy Cole's band. In 1995, Eric Vaughn served as artistic director of the Atlanta Jazz Festival and produced a CD of original music for the Savoy Jazz label in 1996. From 1996 to 2007, Eric Vaughn led jazz trios aboard the Carnival cruise fleet. Vaughn has resided in Berlin since 2008. He has toured and recorded with both CNN and Walt Disney during his career as a composer and arranger, while as a drummer with musicians such as James Moody, Cedar Walton, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Nicolas Payton, Freddie Hubbard and Jon Faddis.
