Das Quintett “Miles & More” widmet sich den Kompositionen und dem Oeuvre des wohl beliebtesten und bedeutendsten Jazztrompeters: Miles Davis. Anlass ist ein besonderes Jubiläum – 2026 wäre Miles Davis 100 Jahre alt geworden, ein Geburtstag, der weltweit gefeiert wird und diesem Konzert eine zusätzliche Strahlkraft verleiht.

Die Band besteht aus einigen der talentiertesten und gefragtesten Musiker der heutigen Jazzszene. Das All-Star-Ensemble unter der Leitung des berüchtigten Berliner Jazz-Giganten Uri Gincel konzentriert sich auf die Ära der 50er, 60er und 70er Jahre – jene Phase, in der Miles Davis mit hochenergetischem Puls, radikaler Innovationslust und unverwechselbarer melodischer Handschrift die Jazzgeschichte neu schrieb.

Mit einer einzigartigen Rhythmusgruppe voller Drive und Präzision sowie einer kraftvollen Bläsersektion entsteht ein Abend voller Soulfulness, geradliniger Power und ekstatischem Interplay – ein Konzert, das nicht nur Tribut ist, sondern ein lebendiges Fest im Geiste des wohl einflussreichsten Jazzmusikers aller Zeiten.

Uri Gincel ist einer der gefragtesten und angesehensten Jazzpianisten in Berlin. Gincels Stil ist stark in der Tradition verwurzelt, aber er versteht es, den Jazz in die Moderne zu bringen. Sein Spiel ist dynamisch, lyrisch und vor allem voller Energie und Kraft! Der in Tel Aviv geborene Gincel kam 2009 nach Berlin und wurde schnell zu einem einflussreichen Teil der Jazzszene. Uri tourte mit vielen Projekten um die Welt, darunter das "Uri Gincel Trio" und "Bonaparte", und studierte bei bedeutenden Musikern wie Arnie Lawrence und Walter Blending Jr. Seit Jahren ist er aus der Berliner Szene nicht mehr wegzudenken und hat als Host der dienstäglichen Session im ZigZag eine wahre Institution im kulturellen Leben an der Spree geschaffen.

Der aus Südafrika stammende, in den USA lebende Trompeter Darren English gilt als einer der spannendsten Jazzmusiker seiner Generation. Für sein Debütalbum Imagine Nation erhielt er begeisterte Kritiken in den USA, Europa und Südafrika – inklusive einer Grammy-Nominierung auf der Longlist, einem SAMA-Nod (South African Music Awards) und der Auszeichnung „Best of the Year“ von JAZZIZ Magazine und der Huffington Post. English ist mehrfacher Preisträger, u.a. der Global Peace Song Awards (2020 & 2018), des FMR Awards, sowie des SAMRO Overseas Award. Auftritte und Aufnahmen mit Künstlern wie Russell Gunn, Carmen Bradford, Kebbi Williams, Curtis Harding, Joe Gransden und Jimmy Heath unterstreichen seinen internationalen Ruf. Als Solist war er auf Alben von Russell Gunn, Dave Potter und Marcus Roberts zu hören. Sein Auftritt beim Cape Town International Jazz Festival zählte zu den Highlights des Events.

Ben Kraef ist ein deutsch-montenegrinischer Saxophonist und Komponist, der in Berlin lebt. Ben schloss sein Studium an der Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin ab und erwarb 2009 einen Master of Arts am City College of New York, wo er 2008 mit dem Billie-Stoller-Stipendium für einen herausragenden Wissenschaftler und Musiker ausgezeichnet wurde. Die Liste der international renommierten Musiker mit denen Ben auftrat und aufnahm, umfasst Koryphäen wie John Abercrombie, John Patitucci, Vincent HerringLalo Schifrin, Fred Hersch, Pee Wee Ellis und Till Brönner sowie Popgruppen wie "Wir Sind Helden" und die Radio-Bigbands von HR und WDR. Zudem ist er Preisträger in verschiedenen nationalen und internationalen Wettbewerben, so z. B. Biberacher Jazzpreis, ‘Concours International de Jazz de Fribourg, Yamaha Saxophone Contest. Seit 2021 unterrichtet Kraef am Jazz-Institut Berlin.

Ivars Arutyunyan ist ein musikalischer, energiegeladener, dynamischer Musiker und Schlagzeuger aus Lettland. Er hat sein ganzes Leben lang Musik studiert verbrachte mehrere Jahre in Kopenhagen und Paris, lebt jetzt in Berlin. Er ist ein aktives Mitglied der europäischen Jazz- und Improvisationsmusikszene und hat mit Künstlern wie Seamus Blake, Greg Osby, Logan Richardson, Jerry Bergonzi, Jesse van Ruller und Carsten Dahl gespielt, um nur einige zu nennen. Er ist in mehr als 30 Ländern aufgetreten und wurde mit dem Großen Lettischen Musikpreis 2022, der Besten Jazzplatte des Jahres in Lettland (2019), dem Grand Prix in Jazz Hoeilaart (BE), dem Almeria Jazz (ESP) und dem Yamaha Drum Day (LV) ausgezeichnet ) usw.

The quintet “Miles & More” is dedicated to the compositions and legacy of one of the most beloved and influential trumpet players in jazz history: Miles Davis. The band brings together some of the most talented and in-demand musicians of today’s jazz scene. Led by the notorious Berlin jazz heavyweight Uri Gincel, this all-star ensemble focuses on the eras of the 1950s, 60s and 70s — the periods in which Miles Davis reshaped the language of jazz with high-energy drive, fearless innovation and a fluid melodic voice. With a uniquely tight and propulsive rhythm section and a powerful horn frontline, the evening promises soulfulness, straight-ahead power and ecstatic interplay — not merely a tribute, but a vivid celebration in the spirit of the most influential jazz musician of all time.

Uri Gincel is one of the most sought-after and respected jazz pianists in Berlin. Gincel's style is strongly rooted in tradition, but he knows how to bring jazz into the modern age. His playing is dynamic, lyrical and above all full of energy and power! Born in Tel Aviv, Gincel came to Berlin in 2009 and quickly became an influential part of the jazz scene. Uri toured the world with many projects, including the "Uri Gincel Trio" and "Bonaparte", and studied with eminent musicians such as Arnie Lawrence and Walter Blending Jr. For years it has been impossible to imagine the Berlin scene without him, and as host of the Tuesday session at ZigZag he has created a true institution in the cultural life of the Spree.

South African-born, US-based trumpeter Darren English is one of the most compelling young voices in contemporary jazz. His debut album Imagine Nation drew widespread critical acclaim in the U.S., Europe, and South Africa, landing on the Grammy® longlist and earning nominations from the South African Music Awards and praise from JAZZIZ Magazineand The Huffington Post as a Best of the Year. A two-time Global Peace Song Award winner (2020 & 2018), he also holds honors from FMR, SAMRO, and was named one of Atlanta’s 40 Under 40 most influential creatives. English has performed and recorded with Russell Gunn, Carmen Bradford, Kebbi Williams, Curtis Harding, Jimmy Heath, and Marcus Roberts, among others. He’s appeared at major festivals, including a main stage set at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, and has been featured on records by Russell Gunn and Dave Potter.

Ben Kraef is a German-Montenegrin saxophonist and composer based in Berlin. He graduated from the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin and earned a Master of Arts degree from the City College of New York in 2009, where he was awarded the Billie Stoller Scholarship in 2008 for outstanding academic and musical achievement. The list of internationally renowned artists with whom Ben has performed and recorded includes luminaries such as John Abercrombie, John Patitucci, Vincent Herring, Lalo Schifrin, Fred Hersch, Pee Wee Ellis, and Till Brönner, as well as pop groups like "Wir Sind Helden" and the HR and WDR Radio Big Bands. He is also a prizewinner in several national and international competitions, including the Biberach Jazz Prize, the Concours International de Jazz de Fribourg, and the Yamaha Saxophone Contest. Since 2021, Kraef has been teaching at the Jazz Institute Berlin.

Paul Kleber was born in Berlin and started playing cello and drums at a young age, before he chose his main instrument, the double bass. He studied classical bass at the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ Berlin and later jazz bass at the Universität der Künste Berlin. He played and recorded with Jazzanova, Sebastian Studnitzky, British band Fink, Micatone, Nylon, JazzIndeed and Lisa Bassenge.

Ivars Arutyunyan is a musical, energetic, dynamic musician and drummer from Latvia. He has studied music all his life spent several years in Copenhagen and Paris, now lives in Berlin. He is an active member of the European jazz and improvised music scene and has played with artists such as Seamus Blake, Greg Osby, Logan Richardson, Jerry Bergonzi, Jesse van Ruller and Carsten Dahl, to name a few. He has performed in more than 30 countries and has been awarded the Latvian Music Grand Prize 2022, Best Jazz Record of the Year in Latvia (2019), Grand Prix in Jazz Hoeilaart (BE), Almeria Jazz (ESP) and Yamaha Drum Day (LV) ) etc.
