Klaviertrios sind zahlreich in der Jazzwelt, doch Night Train hebt sich wohltuend von dieser Masse ab: solch grundehrlicher Swing bei zugleich hochoriginellem Umgang mit der Jazztradition ist selten zu hören. Intelligente, witzige Arrangements, Bigband-Zitate und ein geradezu unerbittlicher Groove - Night Train hat das Künstlerisch-Elitäre, dem die Zunft der Jazzer mitunter selbstverliebt huldigt und dabei gerne am Publikum vorbeispielt, nicht nötig. Night Train nimmt das Publikum ernst: von der eleganten Bühnenpräsenz über die charmanten Ansagen bis zur energetischen Musik.
Altmodisch indes kommt Night Train nicht daher, im Gegenteil, so mancher oft- und abgespielte Standard erhält ein frisches Gesicht. Dabei entsteht soviel Energie, daß man bei den vielen Referenzen an die Big Bands von Count Basie, Woody Herman oder Thad Jones das gute Dutzend Bläser so gar nicht vermisst.

Rurik van Heys: Stride-Piano, Blues, Swing und klassischer moderner Jazz: Der Mann ist gut ausgebildet. Seine Liebe zu Vorbildern wie Gene Harris, Oscar Peterson oder Horace Silver führt ihn seit 30 Jahren quer durch Deutschland und Europa. Wie er kann wohl keiner eine komplette Big Band am Klavier simulieren.

Hendrik Nehls: Klassisch ausgebildet, aber geprägt vom unerbittlichen Swing und Groove eines Ray Brown, inspiriert von Zeitgenossen wie Christian McBride und gelernt u.a. bei Ron Carter: Hendrik Nehls ist in der Berliner und deutschen Jazzszene einer der wenigen jungen Bassisten, die wirklich swingen. Ein wahrer Rhythmus-Motor und daher die ideale Besetzung für die kleinste Big Band Berlins.

Bernd Ratmeyer: Dynamisches, kammermusikalisches Spiel im Trio; treibender Motor in der Big Band: Kein Wunder, dass Night Train gerade diesen Schlagzeuger hat. Sein Handwerk gelernt hat Bernd Ratmeyer u.a. anderen bei Big Band Autoritäten wie Ronnie Stevenson, Holger Nell und Jeff Hamilton.

Piano trios are plentiful in the jazz world, but Night Train stands out pleasantly from the crowd: such downright swing and at the same time highly original handling of jazz tradition is rarely heard. Intelligent, funny arrangements, Big Band quotes and an almost unrelenting groove - Night Train doesn't need the artistic elitism that jazz musicians sometimes adore and like to demonstrate to the audience. Night Train takes the audience seriously: from the elegant stage presence to the charming announcements to the energetic music. The three are not driven by conservative calculations, but by honest fun with songs from musicals and films and the inexhaustible repertoire of jazz history. However, Night Train does not come across as old-fashioned, on the contrary, many a standard that has been played often has been given a fresh face. There is so much energy that, with all the references to the big bands of Count Basie, Woody Herman and Thad Jones, you don't really miss the dozen or so horns.

Rurik van Heys: Stridepiano, Blues, Swing and modern mainstream Jazz: this guy brings a lot on the table, he is well trained. His devotion to the music of piano giants like Gene Harris, Oscar Peterson or Horace Silver made him tour through Germany and Europe for the last 30 years. There is literally no one who can emulate a complete Big Band on the piano like Rurik van Heys does.

Hendrik Nehls: He has received instruction from giants like Ron Carter, Buster Williams, and George Mraz. No wonder that Hendrik Nehls is a driving force in the Berlin jazz scene since 20 years. His absolute love for jazz and swing leads him to wake up in the morning and practice, to have played several thousand (!) concerts in more than 20 countries around the world, and to constantly create new bands and concert series. The ideal motor to drive a small Big Band.

Bernd Ratmeyer: Dynamic, chambermusical drumming in a trio, unrelenting driving motor in a Big Band: no wonder that Bernd Ratmeyer is Night Train´s drummer. He learned his craft from Big Band authorities like Holger Nell, Jeff Hamilton und Ronnie Stevenson.
