Jeder von ihnen ist ein gefeierter Bandleader und Komponist mit eigener künstlerischer Handschrift – von Downes’ poetischer Virtuosität bei ECM bis zu Van Gelders lyrisch-bildhaftem Spiel. Donkin bringt kraftvollen Groove und Vielseitigkeit ein, während Pierre, eine Schlüsselfigur des belgischen Jazz, mit waghalsigen Rhythmen begeistert. Ben van Gelder wird international als Autorität auf dem Altsaxophon anerkannt. Sowohl seine Mitstreiter sowie Musikkritiker faszinieren sich für seinen einzigartigen Klang, seine Lyrik und seinen Umgang als Komponist. Mit 17 zog Van Gelder nach New York und studierte dort mit Guillermo Klein, Jason Moran und Lee Konitz. Durch vielfache Internationale Auszeichnungen und durch die mit Beifall aufgenommene Rezensionen für sein Debut Album Among Verticals wurde ihm weltweite Aufmerksamkeit in der Jazzszene zu Teil.Seitdem kollaboriert er regelmäßig mit Außnahmekünstlern wie u.a. David Binney, Mark Turner, Ambrose Akinmusire und Ben Street.

Kit Downes ist einer der weltbesten jungen Jazzmusiker. Dabei reüssiert er nicht nur als Pianist und Keyboarder, sondern auch als Organist. Der Brite ist Gewinner des BBC Jazz Awards, des Mercury Music Awards und Solo-Recording-Artist für ECM Records. Mit seinen eigenen Bands (ENEMY, Troika und Elt), sowie mit renommierten Künstler*innen wie Squarepusher, Bill Frisell, Empirical, Andrew Cyrille, Sofia Jernberg, Benny Greb, Mica Levi und Sam Amidon hat er weltweit gespielt.

Phil Donkin gehört zu den umtriebigsten und profiliertesten zeitgenössischen Musikern der europäischen Szene. Seine eigenen Projekte gelten als außerordentlich innovativ und sorgen bei Publikum wie Mitmusiker für Verblüffung und Begeisterung. Wenn Phil nicht gerade seine eigenen Bands leitet, kann man ihn mit Künstlern wie Oliver Steidle, Tom Challenger, Philipp Gropper, Frank Möbus, Kalle Kalima, Jim Black, Wanja Slavin, Johannes Enders und Bastian Stein auf Tournee sehen und hören. Phil ist durch ganz Europa, Nordamerika, Afrika und Asien getourt. In den letzten Jahren hat Phil auch mit John Abercrombie, Marc Copland, Ralph Alessi, Joey Baron, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Chris Speed, Dan Weiss, Ethan Iverson und Bill Stewart gespielt. Er lebt derzeit in Berlin.

Antoine Pierre ist einer der gefragtesten Schlagzeuger und Komponisten Belgiens. Schon früh machte er sich mit seinem kraftvollen, zugleich nuancierten Spiel in der europäischen Jazzszene einen Namen. Er studierte am Königlichen Konservatorium in Brüssel und anschließend in New York, wo er seine Technik und stilistische Offenheit weiter vertiefte. Seit mehreren Jahren ist er fester Schlagzeuger in der Band von Philip Catherine sowie im Quartett von Tom Barman und Jef Neve (TaxiWars). Darüber hinaus arbeitete er mit internationalen Größen wie Enrico Pieranunzi, David Linx, Toots Thielemans, Bram De Looze, Igor Gehenot und Bert Joris.

Each of them is an acclaimed band leader and composer with a unique musical vision, from Downes’ poetic virtuosity on ECM to Van Gelder’s lyrical and visual playing style. Donkin brings his powerful groove and versatility, while Pierre, a key figure in Belgian jazz, delivers bold and adventurous rhythms. Ben van Gelder is internationally recognized as a leading voice on the alto saxophone. Both peers and critics admire his unique sound, lyrical phrasing, and compositional approach. At the age of 17, he moved to New York to study with Guillermo Klein, Jason Moran, and Lee Konitz. With multiple international awards and widespread critical acclaim for his debut album Among Verticals, he quickly gained global attention. Since then, he has collaborated regularly with exceptional artists such as David Binney, Mark Turner, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Ben Street.

Kit Downes is regarded as one of the finest young jazz musicians worldwide. Not only an accomplished pianist and keyboardist, he has also earned recognition as an organist. The British musician is a recipient of the BBC Jazz Award, the Mercury Music Prize, and is a solo recording artist for ECM Records. Antoine Pierre is one of Belgium’s most sought-after drummers and composers. Known early on for his powerful yet subtle playing, he established himself as a key figure in the European jazz scene. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and later in New York, further refining his technique and stylistic versatility. For several years he has been the regular drummer in the band of Philip Catherine as well as in Tom Barman and Jef Neve’s project TaxiWars. He has also collaborated with internationally acclaimed musicians such as Enrico Pieranunzi, David Linx, Toots Thielemans, Bram De Looze, Igor Gehenot, and Bert Joris.
