Star-Bassist Orlando le Flemings aktuelles Release Romantic Funk: The Unfamiliar präsentiert eine neue Facette in der Diskographie des Ausnahmekünstlers: eine Hommage an die breitschultrige, hochintensive Fusionmusik der 1970er und 80er Jahre. Wie The Jazz Man schrieb, “rau, aufregend, authentisch und vital”.

Romantic Funk rückt Orlandos virtuoses Bassspiel ins Scheinwerferlicht und gab auch seinen Bandkollegen eine Plattform, um zu glänzen. In dieser Kulisse gediehen und gedeihen intuitive Interaktion, üppige Arrangments und absolut mitreißende Grooves. Für den heutigen Abend freuen wir uns deswegen umso mehr, dass die Band bekanntes und auch neues Material von ihrer im Juni erscheinenden Platte Wandering Talk präsentieren wird!

"Herausragend" ist eine überstrapazierte und oft leichtfertig gebrachte Beschreibung, aber eine, die auf den Bassisten Orlando le Fleming so konsequent zutrifft, dass sie mehr als berechtigt ist. Le Fleming entschied sich in den 1990er Jahren für eine Musikerlaufbahn und studierte an der Royal Academy of Music. Schnell erspielte er sich eine beeindruckende Reputation. Es zog ihn schlussendlich nach New York, wo er sein unverwechselbares Spiel und seine unnachahmliche musikalische Persönlichkeit in die Arbeit an Projekten für Branford Marsalis, Joey Calderazzo, Antonio Sanchez, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Bill Charlap, Billy Cobham, Kevin Hays, Wayne Krantz, Jimmy Cobb, Ari Hoenig, Seamus Blake, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Leslie Odom Jr, Mark Turner und David Sanchez und vielen anderen brachte. Heute gilt Orlando le Fleming als einer der führenden international tätigen Kontra- und E-Bassisten.

Der ursprünglich aus London stammende Altsaxophonist und Komponist Will Vinson zog 1999 nach New York City und ist seitdem dort nicht mehr wegzudenken.. Seit seiner Ankunft ist er mit Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ari Hoenig, Marcus Gilmore, Chris Potter, Kurt Elling, Lage Lund, Aaron Parks und vielen anderen aufgetreten und/oder hat Aufnahmen gemacht. Will ist Mitglied einer Reihe führender Ensembles, darunter das Quartett des Pianisten Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Ari Hoenigs Punk Bop und Nonet, Miguel Zenons Identities Orchestra und seine eigenen Gruppen, in denen neben oben genannten Musikern unter anderem auch noch Shai Maestro und Mike Moreno mitwirken. Will ist mehrfach Grammy-nominiert und hat auf den führenden modernen Jazzlabels wie Criss Cross Records Platten aufgenommen.

Tom Cawley ist einer der führenden Jazzpianisten Großbritanniens. Er ist weltweit in großen Clubs, und Festivals aufgetreten und hat mit einigen der führenden Künstler seines Landes und darüber hinaus gespielt, allen voran mit Peter Gabriel, mit dem er auch zwei Alben und eine Live-DVD aufgenommen hat. Als freiberuflicher Jazzpianist leitet Tom regelmäßig die Hausband im Ronnie Scott's Club und ist außerdem Professor für Jazzpiano an der Royal Academy of Music.

James Maddren ist ein in London lebender britischer Schlagzeuger und Komponist. Derzeit ist er einer der gefragtesten Schlagzeuger Londons. Er hört und spielt gerne alle Arten von Musik und hat die Bühne mit vielen Künstlern und Ensembles geteilt, darunter das Gwilym Simcock and Kit Downes Trio, Jacob Collier, Julian Arguelles Tetra, Marc Copland/Stan Sulzman Quartet, Ivo Neame Group, Phil Donkin, Alex Garnett's Bunch of Five, Michael Janisch, Will Vinson, Martin Speake Quartet, Phronesis, Jonathan Bratoeff Quartet und viele andere.

Star bassist Orlando le Fleming's latest release Romantic Funk: The Unfamiliar presents a new facet in the exceptional artist's discography: a tribute to the broad-shouldered, high-intensity fusion of the 1970s and 80s. As The Jazz Man wrote, "raw, exciting, authentic and vital".

With material developed during an extended stay at New York's legendary Bar 55, Romantic Funk put Orlando's virtuosic bass playing in the spotlight and also gave his bandmates (including saxophonist Will Vinson and drummers Nate Wood and Kush Abadey) a platform to shine. In this setting, intuitive interaction, lush arrangements and absolutely thrilling grooves thrived and continue to thrive. We are therefore all the more delighted that the band will be presenting both familiar and new material from their record Wandering Talk, which will be released in June!

so consistently that its justification can’t be denied. While living in New York he brought his
inimitable personality to work on projects for the likes of Branford Marsalis, Joey Calderazzo,

David Sanchez among many others. Today he is considered one of the leading international bassists.

Since his arrival, he has performed and/or recorded with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ari Hoenig, Marcus Gilmore, Chris Potter, Kurt Elling, Lage Lund, Aaron Parks and many others. Will is a member of a number of leading ensembles, including pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba's quartet, Ari Hoenig's Punk Bop and Nonet, Miguel Zenon's Identities Orchestra, and his own groups featuring Shai Maestro and Mike Moreno, among others, in addition to the musicians mentioned above. Will is a multiple Grammy nominee and has recorded on leading modern jazz labels such as Criss Cross Records.

Tom Cawley is one of the UK’s leading jazz pianists. He has performed worldwide - in major clubs, venues and festivals – with some of the country’s leading artists, most notably Peter Gabriel, with whom he has also recorded two albums and a live DVD. As a freelance jazz piano player, Tom regularly leads the house band at Ronnie Scott's club, and he is also a professor of jazz piano at the Royal Academy of Music.
