Wayne Escoffery ist einer der begabtesten Saxophonisten des amerikanischen Jazz. Ein Musiker, der die Jazztradition respektiert, aber auch über die verrauchten Jazzclubs der Vergangenheit hinausblickt. Er interpretiert neben Eigenkompositionen und Standards auch Repertoire aus klassischer Musik und anderen Genres. In diesem Frühjahr erscheint das neue Album Like Minds des Wayne Escoffery Quartet, auf dem er mit gleichgesinnten Jazz-Größen wie dem Trompeter Tom Harrell und dem Sänger Gregory Porter zusammenarbeitet. Wayne Escoffery machte sich in der Mingus Dynasty, der Big Band und dem Orchester einen Namen. Mehr als ein Jahrzehnt lang spielte er Tenor- und Sopransaxophon in der Band von Trompetenlegende Tom Harrell. Mit Jeremy Pelt und Jonathan Blake war er Mitbegründer der All-Star-Band Black Art Jazz Collective. Er hat Aufnahmen gemacht und ist mit einem Who's Who des Jazz aufgetreten, darunter Ron Carter, Abdullah Ibrahim, Eddie Henderson, Randy Brecker und Herbie Hancock. Wayne gewann einen Grammy mit der Mingus Big Band und führte die Downeat Critics Poll in den Kategorien Rising Star Tenor Saxophone und Rising Star Soprano Saxophone an.

Der Pianist und Komponist Gwilym Simcock bewegt sich mühelos zwischen Jazz und Klassik und kreiert dabei seinen ganz eigenen Sound. So arbeitet er mit Orchestern, Big Bands, kleinen Ensembles und Musiker:innen in einem breiten musikalischen Spektrum. Er gilt als einer der wichtigsten europäischen Jazzmusiker und genießt international herausragende Reputation. Er tourt regelmäßig weltweit mit der Gitarren-Legende Pat Metheny und den Bandkolleg:innen Linda May Han Oh und Antonio Sanchez. 2019 veröffentlichte Metheny das Album „From This Place“, was eben jene Musiker:innen featured. Gwilym ist oft im BBC Radio und UK Fernsehen zu sehen bzw. hören. 2018/19 ware er Artist in Residence der NDR Big Band Hamburg. Außerdem ist der Professor für Jazz Piano an der Royal Academy of Music in London, an der er selbst studiert hatte.

Ugonna Okegwo ist ein in New York lebender deutsch-nigerianischer Bassist. Nach ersten Schritten auf dem Bass studierte er in Berlin, tourte durch Europa und zog schließlich Ende der 90er Jahre zum Big Apple. Er war und ist einer der profiliertesten Session- und Studiobassisten der Szene und spielte auf über 120 Tonträgern mit Größen wie Leon Parker, Jon Hendricks, Donny McCaslin, Bruce Barth oder Tom Harrell.

Marc Michel ist ein französischer Schlagzeuger, Komponist und Multiinstrumentalist. Als Master-Absolvent der Royal Academy of Music in London tritt er häufig mit zahlreichen internationalen Künstlern wie Ben Wendel, Seamus Blake, Danny Grissett, Chris Cheek, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mike Moreno, Jasper Hoiby, Tim Garland und EYM auf Bühnen und Aufnahmestudios auf Trio und mehr.

In fast motion, after 10 years in the Tom Harrell Quartet and twenty-three years in the Mingus Big Band, Wayne Escoffery has become one of the most sought-after musicians on the NYC scene. The rhythm section is made up of three widely and also Zig Zag known musicians, Gwilym Simcock on piano, Ugonna Okegwo on bass and Marc Michel on drums.

Wayne Escoffery is one of the most gifted saxophonists in American jazz. A musician with respect for the jazz tradition, but one who looks beyond the smoky jazz clubs of the past. For example, his album The Humble Warrior included an interpretation of a choir piece by composer Benjamin Britten, alongside original compositions. This spring sees the release of the new album Like Minds by The Wayne Escoffery Quartet, which includes collaborations with likeminded jazz giants such as trumpeter Tom Harrell and singer Gregory Porter. Wayne Escoffery made name in Mingus Dynasty, Big Band, and Orchestra. For more than a decade he played tenor and soprano saxophone in the band of trumpet legend Tom Harrell. With Jeremy Pelt and Jonathan Blake he co-founded the all-star band Black Art Jazz Collective. He has recorded and performed with a who’s who in jazz including Ron Carter, Abdullah Ibrahim, Eddie Henderson, Randy Brecker, and Herbie Hancock. Ugonna Okegwo is a German-Nigerian bassist living in New York. After taking his first steps on the bass, he studied in Berlin, toured Europe and eventually moved to the Big Apple in the late 90s. He was and is one of the most distinguished session and studio bassists on the scene, playing on over 120 records with the likes of Leon Parker, Jon Hendricks, Donny McCaslin, Bruce Barth and Tom Harrell.

Marc Michel is a french drummer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. Master's graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, he frequently appears on stages and recording studios with numerous international artists such as Ben Wendel, Seamus Blake, Danny Grissett, Chris Cheek, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mike Moreno, Jasper Hoiby, Tim Garland, EYM Trio, and more.
