Hier steht ein großartiger junger Drummer, Percussionist und Komponist kurz vor seinem Durchbruch. Diego Piñera war für den ECHO JAZZ 2015 unter der Kategorie „Instrumentalist des Jahres“ nominiert. Wir erleben ihn nicht nur in rhythmisch sehr abwechslungsreichen Stilistiken, von Swing über Bop bis Latin, sondern auch eine feine Melodik, die federleicht ins Ohr geht. Fast unbemerkt bleibt da die hohe rhythmische und harmonische Komplexität, die seine Stücke auszeichnet. Die Band, die Piñera um sich gruppiert hat, tritt seit Jahren gemeinsam auf und hat ein beeindruckendes Interplay entwickelt. Selbst Ausflüge in freie Passagen sind so als Gemeinschaftsprojekte wahrnehmbar und nicht als Egotrips. Diego Piñera wurde in Uruguay geboren und wuchs in Montevideo auf; seit Abschluss seiner Studien in Boston, Mass., Havanna/Cuba und Leipzig lebt er in Berlin.
Diego Pinera was born in Montevideo (Uruguay). He moved to Germany in 2003, where he now still resides. After his studies in Cuba Back in Uruguay he formed his own trio “Diego Pinera trio” and recorded the CD “Buscando” on the Perro Andaluz label. In Germany he recorded with his berlin Quartet “Reflexiones feat.Tony Lakatos”,afterwards “Strange Ways” and in New York He recorded with his trio feat.Mark Turner and Ben Street”My Picture”. Pinera studied drums at the Berklee College of Music (USA), at the University of Music in Havanna (Cuba) and at the University of Music and Theater in Leipzig (Germany). As a sideman he has played with musicians such as Jerry Bergonzi, Danilo Perez, Hans Glawischnig, Dan Tepfer, Alex Sipiagin, Miguel Zenon, Wilson de Oliveira, Tony Lakatos, Nene Vazquez, Joe Gallardo, Katja Riemann, Nils Wogram, Leon Gurvitch and Paul Brody. With his Quartett (with Peter Ehwald, Tino Derado and Phil Donkin) he presents in his compositions a new and unusual approach to Latin Jazz. Sometimes he brings his music closer to Pop and Modern Jazz styles rather than sticking to traditional Latin Jazz styles, often concentrating on the original, rich rhythmic aspects of his improvisational approach. Nonetheless, his way of playing is deeply ankered in the traditional music of Latin America. Diego Pinera is nominated to the ECHO preis 2015 . One of the reasons that makes the zig zag jazz club so unique is that it is the first and only jazz club in the world that manages to finance world class events through a donation/crowd funding concept. How do we do it? Its quite simple… during the break of the concert we make an announcement regarding the collection for the evening. For most concerts (excluding the jam session) we inform our customers that a donation of around 15€ per person will allow us to fairly compensate the musicians. Some people give more and some give less… and that´s ok… we ´ve already successfully promoted hundreds of concerts like this!!!

Einer der Gründe, die den Zig Zag Jazzclub so einzigartig machen, ist, dass er der erste und einzige Jazzclub der Welt ist, dem es gelingt nur durch Spenden/Crowdfunding Events von Weltklasse zu finanzieren. Und wie machen wir das? Ganz einfach. Während der Konzertpause geben wir bekannt, dass wir Geld einsammeln werden. Bei den meisten Konzerten (außer Jam Sessions) informieren wir unsere Kunden, dass eine Spende von ungefähr 15 Euro es uns erlaubt die Musiker gerecht zu bezahlen. Manche geben dabei mehr und andere weniger... und das ist auch in Ordnung. Wir haben auf diese Weise schon Hunderte Konzerte organisiert.
