Electro-Steelpans are combined with a New Orleans inspired Soul to create the global fusion of Steel Panist Singer Songwriter Gregory Boyd. Gregory Boyd’s music can be described as Global Music, which is Steelpan textured, Vocal layered and steeped in the traditions of American Rock, Funk,Blues, R&B, and Jazz.
Gregory Boyd spielt ein aussgewöhnliches Instrument -Steel Drums. Ursprünglich kommen, die auch Steel Pans genannten, Instrument aus der Karibik. Gregory lernte es aber in der Band der US Navy während seiner Militärzeit kennen und lieben. Der Standort der Band war New Orleans und Gregory musste nur die reiche Musiktradition von New Orleans mit den Steel Drums vermischen und fertig war ein Sound der seinesgleichen sucht. Das Sahnehäubchen ist dann noch sein Gesang. Get ready for Mardi Gras.
Gregory Boyd is one of the single most powerful musical sounds and voices in the music world today. He is a descendant of the Blues Great Muddy Waters, has performed with and has included in his stellar lineups some of the most influential musicians in the World from the Jazz City of New Orleans. His musical lineage is from Detroit, Michigan. Motown is where this son of working class parents first started singing with the help of his mother and percussionist father not to mention Black American Gospel sounds and the American Southern roots traditions which has been the backdrop and theme music to his life. Gregory Boyd has taken these sounds and combined them with his own creation “The Electro Acoustic Steel Pans” to create his own Rock, Funk and Blues infused sound That has been presented from Tokyo to Amsterdam, Los Angeles to New York, Ukraine to Chicago. His band will include local Berlinian groovers Kay Lubeck known for his Jazz forays into the unknown and beyond with his musical drumming and command of sound and silence, Jazz Funkster Boris Meinhold on guitar, as well as his longtime bassist from Denmark the “Funky Dane” Joakim Øster featured prominently on all his current European releases. His live shows are combination of electric performance and Gospel, Rock and Blues infused audience participation.

Einer der Gründe, die den Zig Zag Jazzclub so einzigartig machen, ist, dass er der erste und einzige Jazzclub der Welt ist, dem es gelingt nur durch freiwilligem Eintritt/Crowdfunding Events von Weltklasse zu finanzieren. Und wie machen wir das? Ganz einfach. Während der Konzertpause geben wir bekannt, dass wir Geld einsammeln werden. Bei den meisten Konzerten (außer Jam Sessions) informieren wir unsere Kunden, dass ein Beitrag von ungefähr 15 Euro es uns erlaubt die Musiker gerecht zu bezahlen. Manche geben dabei mehr und andere weniger... und das ist auch in Ordnung. Wir haben auf diese Weise schon Hunderte Konzerte organisiert.
ENTRANCE FEES
One of the reasons that makes the zig zag jazz club so unique is that it is the first and only jazz club in the world that manages to finance world class events through a crowd funding concept. How do we do it? Its quite simple… during the break of the concert we make an announcement regarding the collection for the evening. For most concerts (excluding the jam session) we inform our customers that a fee of around 15€ per person will allow us to fairly compensate the musicians. Some people give more and some give less… and that´s ok… we ´ve already successfully promoted hundreds of concerts like this!!!
