Wenn drei der jeweils größten Visionäre ihres Instruments aufeinandertreffen, entsteht Magie. Mit Béla Fleck, Edmar Castañeda und Antonio Sánchez präsentieren wir Ihnen eine der eindrucksvollsten All-Star-Formationen der jüngeren Jazzgeschichte. Das BEATrio, gegründet im Jahr 2024, fand seinen unverwechselbaren Sound in einer Reihe von zwölf besonderen Konzerten im legendären Blue Note Jazz Club in Greenwich Village, wo die Band mutig neue, größtenteils gemeinsam komponierte Musik erkundete. Die außergewöhnliche Besetzung – Banjo, Harfe und Schlagzeug – verleiht jedem Auftritt eine Frische und Einzigartigkeit, die das Publikum in Staunen versetzt. Für dieses besondere Konzert ziehen wir gemeinsam mit Ihnen ins Columbiatheater, um diese drei Ausnahme-Künstler auf großer Bühne live zu erleben. Béla Fleck ist ein US-amerikanischer Banjospieler und Komponist, der das Banjo weit über den Bluegrass hinaus in Jazz, Klassik und Weltmusik etabliert hat. Er gilt als einer der innovativsten Virtuosen seines Instruments. Seit den 1980er-Jahren prägte er die Progressive-Bluegrass-Szene mit der New Grass Revival. 1988 gründete er die genreübergreifende Band Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, mit der er internationale Erfolge feierte. Fleck hat mit Künstlern wie Yo-Yo Ma, Zakir Hussain, Edgar Meyer, Chick Corea, John Williams und Jean-Luc Ponty gearbeitet. Mit über 30 Grammy-Nominierungen und 19 gewonnenen Grammys in neun verschiedenen Kategorien zählt er zu den meistdekorierten Musikern der Gegenwart. Seine Projekte umfassen neben bahnbrechenden Jazzkonzepten u. a. klassische Alben (Perpetual Motion), Weltmusik (Throw Down Your Heart) und Duoauftritte mit seiner Frau Abigail Washburn. Fleck ist bekannt für seine technische Brillanz, seine stilistische Offenheit und seinen Einfluss auf Generationen von Musiker:innen weltweit.

Edmar Castañeda ist ein Harfenist und Komponist, der die Rolle der Harfe im Jazz und in der lateinamerikanischen Musik neu definiert hat. Mit einer atemberaubenden Mischung aus Virtuosität, rhythmischer Präzision und emotionaler Tiefe hat er die Harfe als ernstzunehmende Stimme in der improvisierten Musik etabliert. Seine einzigartige Spielweise – eine Kombination aus Melodie, Harmonie und komplexen rhythmischen Strukturen – brachte ihm weltweites Ansehen für seine Innovationskraft und Ausdrucksstärke ein. Castañeda trat mit Künstlern wie Hiromi, Marcus Miller, Paquito D’Rivera, John Scofield, Wynton Marsalis, John Patitucci und dem Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra auf und nahm mit ihnen auf. Als Solist und mit eigenen Ensembles ist er auf bedeutenden Festivals und Bühnen weltweit zu erleben. Er wurde mit zahlreichen internationalen Preisen und Kompositionsaufträgen ausgezeichnet und gilt als eine der Schlüsselfiguren, die die Grenzen des Jazz und der Harfenmusik erweitert haben – und als jemand, der ein selten gehörtes Instrument ins Zentrum des zeitgenössischen Jazz gerückt hat.

Antonio Sanchez ist einer der führenden Schlagzeuger der Szene. Er begann seine Karriere in seiner Heimat Mexiko, bis er für ein Studium am Berklee College of Music nach Boston zog. Danach ging es ans New England Conservatory, von wo aus er auf Empfehlung seines Lehrers Danilo Perez mit Dizzy Gillespies United Nations Orchestra auf Tour ging. Pat Metheny entdeckte ihn während dieser Tour und damit begann Sanchez’ Sprung in die Jazzelite. Mit der Pat Metheny Group nahm er zwei Alben auf und auch später arbeitete er weiterhin auf mehreren Alben mit Metheny zusammen. Durch diese Kollaboration und durch seine ambitionierten Soloprojekte arbeitete er mit MusikerInnen wie Chris Potter, David Binney, Donny McCaslin, Chick Corea, Enrico Pieranunzi und mehr zusammen. Außerdem wurde er mit mehreren Grammys ausgezeichnet. Ebenfalls bemerkenswert ist seine Arbeit am Soundtrack für den Oscar-prämierten Film Birdman von Alejandro G. Iñárritu, die ihm einen weiteren Grammy, einen BAFTA-Award und einen Golden Globeeinbrachte.

Béla Fleck is an American banjo player and composer who has established the banjo far beyond Bluegrass, expanding it into jazz, classical, and world music. He is regarded as one of the most innovative virtuosos of his instrument. Since the 1980s, he has shaped the progressive Bluegrass scene with New Grass Revival. In 1988, he founded the genre-crossing ensemble Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, achieving international acclaim. Fleck has collaborated with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Zakir Hussain, Edgar Meyer, Chick Corea, John Williams, and Jean-Luc Ponty. Edmar Castañeda is a harpist and composer who has redefined the role of the harp in jazz and Latin music. His unique technique—combining melody, harmony, and complex rhythmic patterns—has earned him global acclaim and comparisons to jazz greats for his inventiveness and intensity. Antonio Sanchez is one of the leading drummers on the scene. He began his career in his native Mexico until he moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. He then went to the New England Conservatory, from where he went on tour with Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra on the recommendation of his teacher Danilo Perez. Pat Metheny discovered him during this tour and thus began Sanchez's leap into the jazz elite. He recorded two albums with the Pat Metheny Group and later continued to work with Metheny on several albums. Through these collaborations and his ambitious solo projects, he has worked with musicians such as Chris Potter, David Binney, Donny McCaslin, Chick Corea, Enrico Pieranunzi and more. He has also been awarded several Grammys. Also noteworthy is his work on the soundtrack for the Oscar-winning film Birdman by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, which earned him another Grammy, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe.
