Dave Holland ist ein Bassist, Komponist und Bandleader, dessen Leidenschaft für die Musik in unterscheidlichsten Stilrichtungen seine mehr als 50-jährige Karriere vorangetrieben und ihm die mit höchsten Auszeichnungen in diesem Bereich eingebracht haben, darunter mehrere Grammy-Preise und den Titel des NEA Jazz Master im Jahr 2017. Holland gilt als Vorreiter auf dem Gebiet des akustischen und elektrischen Basses, da er in einer Zeit aufgewachsen ist, in der sich musikalische Genres - Jazz, Rock, Funk, Avantgarde, Folk, elektronische Musik und andere - frei miteinander vermischten, um neue musikalische Wege zu beschreiten. Er war ein führendes Mitglied einer Generation, die dazu beitrug, das Jazz-Bassspiel von seinem Swing- und Post-Bop-Erbe zur Lebendigkeit und multidisziplinären Begeisterung der modernen Ära zu führen und die melodischen und expressiven Möglichkeiten des Instruments zu erweitern. Lionel Loueke ist ein aus Benin stammender Gitarrist, der zur Speerspitze der Jazz- und Fusionmusik gehört. Er spezialisierte sich in den frühen 1990ern inspiriert durch George Benson auf den Jazz und studierte an der Elfenbeinküste und in Paris, bevor er ans Berklee College of Music und die University of Southern California kam. Schon in dieser Zeit profilierte er sich als visionärer Gitarrist, der zwischen Jazz- und Fusionmusik umhermäandert, ohne dabei seine westafrikanischen Wurzeln zu verlieren. Er spielte mit Herbie Hancock (in dessen Band und auf dem Grammy-prämierten Album Rivers), Terence Blanchard, Esperanza Spalding, Wayne Shorter, Charlie Haden, Kevin Hays und wurde mit unzähligen Preisen ausgezeichnet; vom Downbeat Polls über den Echo Jazz bishin zum Edison Jazz award.

Dave Holland is a bassist, composer, and bandleader whose passion for music across a wide range of styles has driven a career spanning more than 50 years and earned him the highest honors in the field, including multiple Grammy Awards and the title of NEA Jazz Master in 2017. Holland is regarded as a pioneer of both acoustic and electric bass, having come of age during a time when musical genres—jazz, rock, funk, avant-garde, folk, electronic music, and more—freely intermingled to forge new artistic paths. He was a leading figure of a generation that helped move jazz bass playing beyond its swing and post-bop roots toward the vitality and multidisciplinary spirit of the modern era, greatly expanding the melodic and expressive possibilities of the instrument. Holland’s virtuosic technique and profound rhythmic sense—reflecting deep commitment and an open-minded embrace of the full musical spectrum—are widely admired and remain in high demand. To date, his playing can be heard on hundreds of recordings, more than thirty of them released under his own name as a leader.
Lionel Loueke is a Beninese guitarist at the forefront of contemporary jazz and fusion. Inspired by George Benson, he turned his focus to jazz in the early 1990s and studied in Côte d’Ivoire and Paris before continuing his education at Berklee College of Music and the University of Southern California. Even early on, Loueke distinguished himself as a visionary guitarist who fluidly navigates between jazz and fusion while remaining deeply rooted in his West African heritage. He has performed with Herbie Hancock (both in his band and on the Grammy-winning album River: The Joni Letters), Terence Blanchard, Esperanza Spalding, Wayne Shorter, Charlie Haden, Kevin Hays, and many others, and has received numerous awards ranging from the DownBeat Critics Poll to the Echo Jazz and the Edison Jazz Award.
