Seit fast fünf Jahrzehnten gehört Jeff Lorber zu den prägenden Keyboardern des amerikanischen Fusion Jazz. Mit der Jeff Lorber Fusion, die er bereits 1977 gründete, entwickelte er früh einen unverwechselbaren Sound aus Jazz, Funk und R&B, geprägt von Fender Rhodes, Synthesizern und einem enormen Gespür für Groove und Melodie. Im November 2026 kommt der Pianist, Komponist und Produzent mit seinem aktuellen Projekt auf Europatournee.

Von den frühen Alben der Jeff Lorber Fusion über seinen Durchbruch als Solokünstler bis zu seinen heutigen Produktionen hat Lorber diesen Sound über Jahrzehnte immer wieder weiterentwickelt. Sein Stück „Pacific Coast Highway“ brachte ihm 1985 seine erste Grammy-Nominierung ein; mit dem Album „Prototype“ gewann die Jeff Lorber Fusion 2018 schließlich den Grammy für das Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.

Kaum ein Keyboarder steht so exemplarisch für die Entwicklung des amerikanischen Fusion-Sounds der vergangenen fünf Jahrzehnte. Lorbers Diskografie versammelt Musiker wie Chick Corea, Freddie Hubbard, Randy Brecker, Jean-Luc Ponty, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Nathan East, Jimmy Haslip, Eric Marienthal, Bob Mintzer, Robben Ford und Paul Jackson Jr. Gleichzeitig wurde die Jeff Lorber Fusion selbst zum Ausgangspunkt bedeutender Karrieren: Bereits Ende der 1970er-Jahre gehörte der damals noch weitgehend unbekannte Kenny G zur Band. Eine beeindruckende Karriere und ein Musiker, der den Sound von Jazz-Funk und Fusion über mehrere Generationen entscheidend mitgeprägt hat.

For almost five decades, Jeff Lorber has been one of the defining keyboardists in American jazz fusion. With the Jeff Lorber Fusion, which he founded in 1977, he developed an unmistakable sound combining jazz, funk and R&B, driven by Fender Rhodes, synthesizers and an exceptional sense of groove and melody. In November 2026, the pianist, composer and producer returns to Europe with his current project.

From the early Jeff Lorber Fusion albums and his breakthrough as a solo artist to his more recent productions, Lorber has continued to develop this sound throughout his career.
