Irgendwo zwischen Avishai Cohen (dem Bassisten), Mammal Hands, Brad Mehldau und The Bad Plus sucht der Berliner Komponist und Pianist Max Schlage Musik die zugleich melancholisch und euphorisch ist. In seinen Kompositionen vereint er das Komplexe mit dem Direkten, Emotionalen und Körperlichen. So haben Zuhörer, ob Jazz erfahren oder nicht, immer etwas was sie greifen können, und etwas was sie überrascht. Er spielt seit seinem fünften Lebensjahr Klavier, studiert am Jazz-Institut-Berlin und ist seit 2023 Stipendiat von YEHUDI MENUHIN Live Music Now Berlin e.V.

Alm ist ein instrumentales Trio, das Ambient-Jazz durch eine Mischung aus Komposition und Improvisation erschafft. Ihre sparsamen Kompositionen lassen Raum für die kollektive Erkundung von Zusammenspiel und Klang. Für dieses Konzert werden sie Ronja Andersson präsentieren, eine fantastische Sängerin und Komponistin. Mit Inspiration aus zahlreichen Musikgenres wie Jazz, Alternative und Electronic Pop hat Ronja sowohl als Sängerin als auch als Komponistin eine persönliche und faszinierende Stimme gefunden.

The Zig Zag-Jazzclub is proud to announce a new concert series in collaboration with the Jazz Institute Berlin (JIB) that will showcase some outstanding jazz talent from the international scene. The Jazz Institute Berlin is considered one of the most prestigious jazz training institutions in Germany as well as internationally, attracting many of the most gifted talents from around the world. Somewhere between Avishai Cohen (the bassist), Mammal Hands, Brad Mehldau, and The Bad Plus, Berlin-based composer and pianist Max Schlage searches for music that is both melancholic and euphoric. In his compositions, he unites the complex with the direct, the emotional with the physical—creating pieces that always offer listeners, whether seasoned jazz fans or newcomers, something to hold onto and something to surprise them.
Having played piano since the age of five, Max studies at the Jazz Institute Berlin and has been a scholarship recipient of YEHUDI MENUHIN Live Music Now Berlin e.V. since 2023.

Alm is an instrumental trio that creates ambient jazz through a blend of composition and improvisation. Their minimalist pieces leave space for collective exploration of interplay and sound.
For this concert, they will feature Ronja Andersson, a fantastic singer and composer. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of genres including jazz, alternative, and electronic pop, Ronja has developed a distinctive and captivating voice—both as a vocalist and as a composer.
