Mit Joe Sanders’ neuem Projekt Parallels präsentiert sich ein Ensemble, das einige der herausragendsten Stimmen des zeitgenössischen Jazz vereint. Mit dabei sind der visionäre Altsaxophonist Logan Richardson (u. a. Jason Moran, Gerald Clayton), der ausdrucksstarke Tenorsaxophonist Seamus Blake (Mingus Big Band, Michael Brecker) sowie der schon fast legendäre Schlagzeuger Kendrick Scott. Das Quartett bringt die Musik von Sanders’ 2024 erschienenem Album Parallels auf die Bühne – Kompositionen voller Energie, Tiefe und Raffinesse. Dabei ist jeder Musiker nicht nur Teil des Ganzen, sondern tritt auch solistisch eindrucksvoll in den Vordergrund. Parallels ist ein Projekt, das die klangliche Vielfalt des modernen Jazz auslotet und in ein eindrucksvolles und spannendes Gewand packt! Ein Must-See!

Joe Sanders zeigte schon in frühester Kindheit Begeisterung für Musik, sei es in Form von Blues aus dem Radio oder den Klängen in der Baptistenkirche. Seit er 2002 den Mittleren Westen in Richtung Kalifornien verließ, um am Brubeck Institute zu studieren, hatte er das Glück, an der Seite von Größen wie Dave Brubeck, Christian McBride, Terence Blanchard, Ron Carter, Roy Hargrove, Joshua Redman, Charlie Haden, Herbie Hancock, Charles Lloyd, Wayne Shorter und Geri Allen zu spielen und zu lernen. 2007 zog Sanders nach New York City und wurde schnell zu einem festen Bestandteil der blühenden New Yorker Jazzszene. Seine Vielfältigkeit als Bassist ist mit inzwischen über 30 CD-Einspielungen als Sideman belegt. Als Bandleader veröffentlichte er neben seinem letzten Album Parallels unter anderem das Album „Humanity“, auf dem Aaron Parks, Eric Harland und John Ellis mitwirkten.

Seamus Blake zählt zu den beeindruckendsten Saxophonisten unserer Zeit. Geboren 1970 in London, aufgewachsen in Vancouver, fand er seine Leidenschaft für den Jazz früh – vor allem durch seine Mutter. Er studierte am Berklee College of Music, Boston, und zog danach nach New York, wo er sich mit seiner markanten Stimme auf dem Saxophon schnell etablierte. 2002 gewann Blake den prestigeträchtigen Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition und hatte als Folge Auftritte mit Legenden wie Wayne Shorter und Herbie Hancock. Seitdem hat er zahlreiche Alben als Bandleader veröffentlicht — sein Spiel ist bekannt für seine feine Komposition, fordernde Improvisationen und die Fähigkeit, sowohl in großen Ensembles als auch im kleinen Quartet ein intensives musikalisches Erlebnis zu erzeugen. Er ist langjähriges Mitglied der Mingus Big Band, arbeitet regelmäßig mit Musikern wie Bill Stewart, Kevin Hays, David Kikoski und anderen zusammen, und ist stets auf der Suche danach, die Grenzen zwischen Tradition und Innovation im Jazz neu zu vermessen.

Logan Richardson ist in Kansas City, Missouri, geboren und aufgewachsen. Im Alter von 16 Jahren begann Richardson, professionell aufzutreten, und mit 19 ging er nach Boston, um die Berklee School of Music zu besuchen, gefolgt von einem Umzug nach New York City, um die New School University zu besuchen. In NYC begann Richardson seine Arbeit mit Jazzlegenden wie Joe Chambers, Billy Hart, Butch Morris, Greg Osby, Stefon Harris und Jason Moran. Nach zwei ersten Veröffentlichungen als Leader veröffentlichte Richardson 2016 sein Debüt Shift bei Blue Note Records mit einer beeindruckenden Band von musikalischen Visionären, darunter Gitarrist Pat Metheny, Pianist Jason Moran, Bassist Harish Raghavan und Schlagzeuger Nasheet Waits.

Kendrick Scott prägt die Welt des modernen Schlagzeugsspiels seit Jahren entscheidend mit. Scott stammt aus einer Musikerfamilie und trat schon in seiner Jugend professionell auf. Nach seinem Studium am renommierten Berklee College of Music 2002 etablierte er sich als einer der führenden Drummer seiner Generation. Er arbeitete mit Pat Metheny, Joe Lovano, Kenny Garrett, Dianne Reeves, Robert Glasper, Terence Blanchard und unzähligen Größen mehr zusammen, ist aktuell Mitglied im Charles Lloyd Quartet und führt mit seiner Band Oracle eine der intensivsten Formationen der letzten Jahrzehnte.

With Joe Sanders’ new project Parallels, an ensemble comes together that unites some of the most outstanding voices in contemporary jazz. Joe Sanders showed an early passion for music, whether through the blues on the radio or the sounds of the Baptist church. In 2002, he left the Midwest for California to study at the Brubeck Institute, where he had the privilege of performing with legends such as Dave Brubeck, Christian McBride, Terence Blanchard, Ron Carter, Roy Hargrove, Joshua Redman, Charlie Haden, Herbie Hancock, Charles Lloyd, Wayne Shorter, and Geri Allen. Since moving to New York City in 2007, Sanders has become an integral part of the city’s vibrant jazz scene. His versatility as a bassist is documented on more than 30 recordings as a sideman. As a bandleader, he has released several acclaimed albums, including Humanity (featuring Aaron Parks, Eric Harland, and John Ellis) and his latest work, Parallels.

Seamus Blake is one of the most compelling saxophonists of his generation. Born in London in 1970 and raised in Vancouver, he was introduced to jazz from a young age—especially through his mother—and later refined his craft at the Berklee College of Music in Boston before making his mark in New York. In 2002, Blake won the illustrious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition, which led to performances alongside legends such as Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock. Since then, he has released numerous albums as a bandleader, marked by elegant composition, daring improvisations, and a mastery that shines whether in large ensembles or intimate quartets. Long a member of the Mingus Big Band, Blake collaborates frequently with top-tier contemporaries like Bill Stewart, Kevin Hays, and David Kikoski. His music continually bridges tradition and innovation, offering performances that are as intellectually rigorous as they are emotionally powerful.

Logan Richardson was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating from the renowned Berklee College of Music in 2002, he quickly established himself as one of the leading drummers of his generation. Scott has worked with Pat Metheny, Joe Lovano, Kenny Garrett, Dianne Reeves, Robert Glasper, Terence Blanchard, and countless other greats. He is currently a member of the Charles Lloyd Quartet and leads his own band, Oracle, one of the most powerful and dynamic ensembles of the past decades.
