On January 11, we are delighted to invite you once again to our Legacy of Giants series. What would today's jazz music be without the creative giants who have made this art form what it is today with their vision and unbridled energy? With Legacy of Giants, we pay tribute to the greats of jazz history together with the leading figures of the Berlin and international jazz world. The first issue of 2026 celebrates the enduring voice of the tenor saxophone through the music of the instrument’s most influential figures. From swing and bebop to hard bop and beyond, the program traces the evolution of the tenor saxophone as shaped by legendary players of the jazz tradition. Featuring two tenor saxophones at the frontline, this concert highlights both the power of individual voices and the dynamic dialogue that has defined the tenor saxophone’s role in jazz.
Barcelona native Gianni Gagliardi "a rising star on the Brooklyn jazz scene," as Ron Netsky of the Rochester City Newspaper writes. His unique sound, originality and artistic integrity have enabled him to perform around the world in a wide variety of settings, from jazz to flamenco with the likes of Al Foster, John Clayton, Dick Oats, Gilad Hekselman and Jordi Rossy. He has been a student at Berklee College of Music, the State University of New York, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the Conservatoire National Superior de Paris. Gianni is the founder of BCN Jazz Collective, a label and platform for young composers to publish and promote their works. He is in demand as a sideman and leader; his recordings have received the highest praise from international critics.
"Gagliardi delivers music that is distinctive and stirring. One of his many gifts is his ability to shape and build intensity." - Dan Bylawsky, All About Jazz
