Natalie Greffel bringt ihren genreüberschreitenden Sound in den Zig Zag in Berlin mit einer Band, die sich fließend zwischen Groove, Storytelling und Improvisation bewegt. Greffels Musik verwebt Elemente afro-brasilianischer Rhythmen und Black Creative Music mit einem Ensemble, das eine dynamische Klanglandschaft erschafft – mal intim und reflektierend, mal rhythmisch aufgeladen und expansiv – und das Publikum in einen Raum einlädt, in dem Identität, Erinnerung und Klang aufeinandertreffen.
Die mit dem deutschen Jazzpreis ausgezeichnete Bassistin, Sängerin und Komponistin Natalie Greffel erforscht afro-diasporische Identität durch eine unverwechselbare Fusion aus Jazz und globalen Einflüssen. Sowohl groove-getrieben als auch konzeptionell reich, beschäftigt sich ihre Musik intensiv mit Themen wie Migration, Erinnerung und Zugehörigkeit. Derzeit promoviert sie im PhD-Programm „Creative Practice / Critical Inquiry (CPCI)“ an der Harvard University, wo sie ihren transdisziplinären Ansatz in Komposition, Forschung und Performance weiterentwickelt.
Johannes von Ballestrem ist ein vielseitiger Pianist und Keyboarder, bekannt für seine fließende Improvisation und Sensibilität über Genres hinweg. Sein Spiel verbindet harmonische Tiefe mit rhythmischer Klarheit und gibt dem Ensemble sowohl Halt als auch Ausdruck. Aktiv in der zeitgenössischen europäischen Jazzszene, hat er in unterschiedlichen Kontexten gespielt – vom transatlantischen Duo tightrope dancer mit der Flötistin Mariana Zwarg über seine eigene Band COR bis hin zu Auftritten bei Projekten mit der Sängerin Defne Şahin. Außerdem arbeitete er als Sideman mit Künstler*innen wie Kurt Rosenwinkel, Nils Landgren und Norma Winstone und ist auf Aufnahmen von brasilianisch beeinflusster Jazzmusik bis hin zu modernem Kammerjazz zu hören.
Philip Dornbusch ist ein dynamischer Schlagzeuger, dessen Ansatz Präzision mit Offenheit verbindet und rhythmische Stabilität mit einer sensiblen, auf Zuhören basierenden Ensemble-Arbeit kombiniert. Er leitet Projekte wie Ritus Hesetes, die sein Engagement für experimentelle und zeitgenössische Formen improvisierter Musik widerspiegeln. Sein Spiel vereint Antrieb und Nuancen, gestaltet die Musik klar, bleibt dabei flexibel und reagiert tiefgründig auf kollektive Improvisation.
Carlos Corona ist ein Gitarrist, dessen Stil komplexe Texturen mit ausdrucksstarker Phrasierung verbindet, oft auf sechs- und siebensaitiger Gitarre. Durch sein Studium und Engagement mit einer Vielzahl musikalischer Traditionen in ganz Südamerika reflektiert sein Spiel ein tiefes Verständnis vielfältiger rhythmischer und harmonischer Sprachen. Er bewegt sich fließend zwischen atmosphärischen Klanglandschaften und rhythmisch geerdeten Grooves und bringt eine markante, vielseitige Stimme ein, die dem Ensemble Tiefe und Dimension verleiht.

The German Jazz Prize-winning bassist, singer, and composer Natalie Greffel explores Afro-diasporic identity through a distinctive fusion of jazz and global influences. Carlos Corona is a guitarist whose style merges intricate textures with expressive phrasing, often performing on six- and seven-string guitar. Through his studies and engagement with a wide range of musical traditions across South America, his playing reflects a deep understanding of diverse rhythmic and harmonic languages. Moving fluidly between atmospheric soundscapes and rhythmically grounded grooves, he brings a distinctive and versatile voice that adds depth and dimension to the ensemble.
