Die schweizerisch-polnisch-japanische Musikerin gilt als eine der eingenständigsten Stimmen der europäischen Szene. Ihre Musik lebt zwischen Art-Pop, Jazz und Neoklassik, durchdrungen von Improvisation, Intuition und einer tief persönlichen Ausdruckskraft. Als ob Tori Amos und Norah Jones mit Ólafur Arnalds Filmmusik zu einem Debussy-Biopic geschrieben hätten.

Yumi Ito hat sich in der europäischen Szene vom Geheimtipp zum Star entwickelt und begeistert mit ihrem individuellen und gefühlvollen Stil Publikum und Kritikerschaft gleichermaßen. In eine Musikerfamilie geboren, studierte Sie in Zürich und Basel bei renommierten Dozenten, darunter Jeff Ballard und Bobby McFerrin. Angesiedelt im Spannungsfeld zwischen Pop und Jazz interpretiert Yumi sowohl eigene Songs als auch Cover, stets mit ihrer eigenen, einfühlsamen und träumerischen Note. Die Gewinnerin der Montreux Jazz Vocal Competition arbeitete bereits mit Mark Turner, Becca Stevens und Al Jarreau.

«Stardust Crystals» (2020) wurde von Jazz thing und Bandcamp als eines der besten Alben des Jahres gelistet. «Ysla» (2023) knüpfte mit breitem Medienecho und Konzerten auf der ganzen Welt an diese Erfolge an. SWR2 Jazz kürte Yumi Ito zur «vokalen Entdeckung des Jahres». Am 19. September 2025 erschien mit «Lonely Island» ihr erstes Soloalbum bei enja yellowbird records. 2026 folgt ein neues Werk mit ihrer Band.

Yumi Ito creates musical worlds with her voice and piano that transcend all boundaries. The Swiss-Polish-Japanese musician is regarded as one of the most distinctive voices on the European scene. Her music exists at the intersection of art-pop, jazz, and neo-classical, infused with improvisation, intuition, and deeply personal expression. It’s as if Tori Amos and Norah Jones had written a Debussy biopic score with Ólafur Arnalds.

In the European scene, Yumi Ito has grown from a hidden gem to a star, captivating both audiences and critics alike with her unique and emotive style. Born into a musical family, she studied in Zurich and Basel with renowned instructors, including Jeff Ballard and Bobby McFerrin. Straddling the space between pop and jazz, Yumi interprets both her own compositions and covers, always imbued with her sensitive and dreamlike touch. The winner of the Montreux Jazz Vocal Competition has already collaborated with Mark Turner, Becca Stevens, and Al Jarreau.

Her album Stardust Crystals (2020) was listed by Jazz thing and Bandcamp as one of the best albums of the year. Ysla (2023) continued this success, receiving wide media attention and concert performances worldwide. SWR2 Jazz named Yumi Ito the “vocal discovery of the year.” On September 19, 2025, she released her first solo album, Lonely Island, on Enja Yellowbird Records, with a new band project slated for 2026.
