Das Jako Quartet ist das neue Projekt des in Berlin lebenden griechischen Gitarristen Iakovos „Jako“ Symeonidis. Mit im Gepäck hat die unverbrauchte Truppe ihr neues Album „Everything In Between“, aufgenommen im Mai 2025 – größtenteils Eigenkompositionen von Symeonidis, geprägt von Symeonidis’ Erfahrungen als griechischer Immigrant im Ausland. Neben den neuen Kompositionen widmet sich die mitreißende Band dem Repertoire der Jazztradition, Funk- und Soulklassikern und mehr, vorgetragen mit Witz, Spontaneität und Understatement. Ihr Sound verbindet Swing-, Afro- und Funk-Grooves mit Improvisation und Spontaneität. Im Zig Zig wird die Band die Veröffentlichung des Albums feiern und dabei auch einige Special Guests einladen, man darf gespannt sein!

Iakovos 'Jako' Symeonidis ist ein in Berlin lebender Jazz Gitarrist aus Athen, Griechenland. Er tritt häufig mit anderen lokalen Berliner Musikern auf und leitete Bands an renommierten Veranstaltungsorten.
Bevor er 2019 nach Berlin zog, studierte Jako klassische Gitarre am Nationalkonservatorium Athen (Abschluss 2013, Solistendiplom) und Jazzgitarre am Prins Claus Conservatoire (Abschluss 2019, Bachelor in Musik/Jazz Gitarre). Zuletzt war er Halbfinalist beim internationalen Smietana-Gitarrenwettbewerb (2021). Jako schloss im Juli 2024 sein Studium an der Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden mit einem Master in Jazzgitarre (JPR – Performance) ab. Sein Wissen rundete er mit Stunden bei Peter Bernstein und Jonathan Kreisberg ab. Seit 2023 unterrichtet er an der Schostakowitsch-Musikschule Berlin-Lichtenberg.

Thomas Hahn ist ein preisgekrönter Saxophonist, Komponist und Lehrer aus Berlin, der in der zeitgenössischen Jazz-Szene aktiv ist und eine breite Palette an Stilen abdeckt, von Hip-Hop bis Klassik, mit Fokus auf zeitgenössischem Jazz und Modern Creative. Er studierte in Amsterdam, besuchte Masterclasses bei Jazz-Legenden, wurde mit dem DAAD-Stipendium gefördert und trat auf Festivals wie dem Würzburger Jazzfestival auf, oft mit seinen eigenen Ensembles, die auch Preise gewannen.

Maik Kleer ist ein Bassist aus Essen, der in Berlin lebt. Er studierte E-Bass und Kontrabass am Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Er ist in der Berliner Musikszene aktiv und wirkt an verschiedenen Projekten mit, die sich zwischen Jazz, Soul, Pop und Fusion bewegen.

Aarón Castrillo ist ein spanischer Schlagzeuger, Pianist und Komponist, der in Berlin lebt. Er studierte Jazz-Schlagzeug an der renommierten Musikene-Schule im Baskenland und absolvierte ein Masterstudium im EUJAM-Programm des JIB. Bekannt ist er vor allem als Modern-Jazz-Musiker, beschäftigt sich aber auch mit verschiedenen anderen Musikgenres wie Neo-Soul, Lo-Fi Beats, R&B und Pop. Er ist als Sideman und Co-Leader in mehreren internationalen Musikprojekten tätig.

The Jako Quartet is the new project of Berlin-based Greek guitarist Iakovos “Jako” Symeonidis. The fresh and dynamic group arrives with its new album Everything In Between, recorded in May 2025 – consisting largely of original compositions by Symeonidis, shaped by his experiences as a Greek immigrant living abroad. Alongside these new works, the energetic band also explores the repertoire of the jazz tradition, as well as funk and soul classics and more, all delivered with wit, spontaneity and understatement. Their sound blends swing, Afro and funk grooves with improvisation and a strong sense of spontaneity. At ZigZag, the band will celebrate the album release and invite several special guests – plenty to look forward to!

Iakovos “Jako” Symeonidis is a jazz guitarist from Athens, Greece, currently based in Berlin. He frequently performs with other local Berlin musicians and has led bands at renowned venues. Before moving to Berlin in 2019, Jako studied classical guitar at the Athens National Conservatory (graduating in 2013 with a soloist diploma) and jazz guitar at the Prins Claus Conservatoire (graduating in 2019 with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Guitar). In 2021 he was a semifinalist at the international Smietana Guitar Competition. Jako completed his Master’s degree in Jazz Guitar (JPR – Performance) at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden in July 2024 and further refined his skills through lessons with Peter Bernstein and Jonathan Kreisberg. Since 2023, he has been teaching at the Shostakovich Music School Berlin-Lichtenberg.

Thomas Hahn is an award-winning saxophonist, composer and educator from Berlin, active in the contemporary jazz scene and covering a wide stylistic range from hip-hop to classical music, with a strong focus on modern creative jazz. He studied in Amsterdam, attended masterclasses with jazz legends, received funding from the DAAD, and has performed at festivals such as the Würzburg Jazz Festival, often with his own ensembles, which have also received awards.

Maik Kleer is a bassist from Essen who is now based in Berlin. He studied electric bass and double bass at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and is an active part of the Berlin music scene, contributing to a variety of projects spanning jazz, soul, pop and fusion.

Aarón Castrillo is a Spanish drummer, pianist and composer living in Berlin. He studied jazz drums at the renowned Musikene school in the Basque Country and completed a master’s degree in the EUJAM program at the Jazz Institute Berlin. Best known as a modern jazz musician, he is also deeply involved in other genres such as neo-soul, lo-fi beats, R&B and pop. He works as a sideman and co-leader in several international music projects.
