Südamerikanische Rhythmen treffen auf afrikanische Vibes: an diesem Abend im Zig Zag Jazz Club bleibt kein Auge trocken, wenn das kolumbianische Schlagzeugtalent David Millán, der mauritische Ausnahmepianist Samuel Appapoulay und der deutsche Bassroutinier Urs Johnen ihr musikalisches Feuerwerk zünden. Die phänomenale Rhythmusgruppe liefert damit zugleich ein verlässliches Fundament für zwei Weltklassesolisten, nämlich den Saxophonisten Fox und den hochkarätigen Trompeter Greg Ambroise.

Samuel Appapoulay ist Pianist, Keyboarder, Sänger und Musikproduzent, geboren und aufgewachsen auf der wunderschönen Insel Mauritius. Seine musikalische Expertise entwickelte er in 25 Jahren Erfahrung, in denen er in international Jazzclubs, bei Festivals sowie bei privaten und Firmenveranstaltungen in Asien, Australien und Europa spielte. Zudem arbeitete er mit Louie Shelton, Linley Marthe und Orlando Monday Allen zusammen. Mittlerweile lebt er in Berlin und ist in einer Vielzahl von Musikgenres in verschiedenen Formationen aktiv. Er schafft mit seiner Stilsicherheit und seiner Virtuosität einzigartige musikalische Erlebnisse für begeisterte ZuhörerInnen weltweit.

Fox ist ein Berliner Saxophonist mit einem tiefen globalen musikalischen Understatement. In Ost-Berlin geboren, studierte er Jazzstudium in Mainz und Graz (Österreich). Er erweiterte dann seine musikalischen Horizonte: Forschungsprojekte führten ihn nach Indien und China. 2008 kehrte er nach Berlin zurück und arbeitete an Projekten wie Vertreibung aus dem Paradies, Katya Sourikova Gruppe und der Bigband der deutschen Oper, um nur einige zu nennen. Er war sowohl als Performer als auch als Komponist und Arrangeur in zahlreichen Film – und Theaterproduktionen tätig.

Greg Ambroisine ist ein in Deutschland ansässiger Trompeter, Regisseur, Pädagoge und Komponist, der weltweit mit seiner Musik aufgetreten ist. Ambroisine wurde in Sydney geboren und zog nach Beginn seines Musikstudiums nach Melbourne um. Nach seinem Abschluss am Victorian College of the Arts reiste Ambroisine als professioneller Jazzmusiker durch Kanada und Deutschland. Während dieser Zeit trat er mit dem Trompeter Maarcus Belgrave (Ray Charles, Charles Mingus, Motown Records, Tribe Records, Blue Note Records) und dem legendären Schlagzeuger Richard "Pistol" Allen auf.

Urs Johnen wurde in Tübingen geboren, ist im Schwarzwald aufgewachsen und ist heute in Berlin und auf Mallorca zuhause. Er studierte Kontrabass in Stuttgart und in Weimar, erhielt Unterricht u.a. bei Horst-Dieter Wenkel, Ulrich Lau, Manfred Bründl, Frank Möbus, Jo Thönes, Klaus Dusek sowie Patrick Bopp und war Stipendiat der Thüringer Orchesterakademie als Kontrabassist bei den Jenaer Philharmonikern. Frühe Erfahrungen in Klassikensembles wie der Jeunesse Musicale Franco-Allemande, der Jungen Deutschen Philharmonie oder der Philharmonie der Nationen einerseits und Jazzensembles wie dem Landesjugendjazzorchester Baden-Württemberg andererseits prägten sein Selbstverständnis als musikalischer Brückenbauer und Grenzgänger. Er ist im Jazz-, Pop- und Klassikbereich aktiv und konzertierte mit Formationen von der Alten bis zur Zeitgenössischen Musik sowie vom Singer-Songwriter-Pop bis zum Avantgardejazz im In- und Ausland.

David Millan gehört zu den interessantesten Schlagzeugern der derzeitigen Musikwelt. Das kolumbianische Ausnahmetalent studierte erst in Ecuador und dann für den Master am Jazz-Institut Berlin und bereichert nun schon seit einigen Jahren die europäische Szene. Bekannt ist er für seine Stilsicherheit in fast allen Bereichen der lateinamerikanischen Musik und seine Wandlungs- und Anpassungsfähigkeit. Er arbeitete mit vielen namhaften internationalen Künstlern zusammen und ist neben seiner Tätigkeit als freischaffender Künstler ebenfalls als Produzent, Tontechniker und Leiter seiner eigenen Online-Schlagzeugschule tätig.

South American rhythms meet African vibes: on this evening at the Zig Zag Jazz Club, the audience will be on their feet when Colombian drumming talent David Millán, Mauritian exceptional pianist Samuel Appapoulay, and German bass veteran Urs Johnen set off their musical fireworks. This phenomenal rhythm section also provides a solid foundation for two world-class soloists, namely saxophonist Fox and the top-notch trumpeter Greg Ambroise

Samuel Appapoulay is a pianist, keyboard player, singer and music producer born and raised on the beautiful Island of Mauritius . His musical expertise was developed within 25 years of experience in playing at internationally reknown jazz clubs, festivals, private- and corporate Events in Asia, Australia and Europe. Moreover he produced works with Louie Shelton, Linley Marthe and Orlando Monday Allen. Now located in Berlin, Germany he acts within a broad range of music genres in different formations and creates unique music experiences for enthusiatisc audiences.

Fox is a Berlin saxophonist with a deep global musical understatement. Born in East Berlin, he studied jazz in Mainz and Graz (Austria). He then broadened his musical horizons: research projects took him to India and China. In 2008 he returned to Berlin and worked on projects such as Expulsion from Paradise, Katya Sourikova Group and the Big Band of the German Opera, to name but a few. He has worked as a performer as well as a composer and arranger in numerous film and theater productions.

Greg Ambroisine is a German-based trumpeter, director, educator and composer who has performed his music worldwide. Ambroisine was born in Sydney and moved to Melbourne after beginning his music studies. After graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts, Ambroisine traveled throughout Canada and Germany as a professional jazz musician. During this time he performed with trumpeter Maarcus Belgrave (Ray Charles, Charles Mingus, Motown Records, Tribe Records, Blue Note Records) and legendary drummer Richard "Pistol" Allen.

Urs Johnen was born in Tübingen in 1982, grew up in Calw in the Black Forest and now also lives in Berlin and in Andratx, Mallorca. He studied double bass in Stuttgart and in Weimar, received lessons from Horst-Dieter Wenkel, Ulrich Lau, Manfred Bründl, Frank Möbus, Jo Thönes, Klaus Dusek as well as Patrick Bopp and was a scholarship holder of the Thuringian Orchestra Academy as a double bass player with the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra. Early experiences in classical ensembles such as the Jeunesse Musicale Franco-Allemande, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie or the Philharmonie der Nationen on the one hand and jazz ensembles such as the Landesjugendjazzorchester Baden-Württemberg on the other hand shaped his self-image as a musical bridge builder and border crosser. He is active in jazz, pop and classical music and has performed with formations ranging from early to contemporary music as well as from singer-songwriter pop to avant-garde jazz in Germany and abroad.

David Millán is one of the most intriguing drummers in today's music world. The exceptional Colombian talent studied in Ecuador and then completed his master's degree at the Jazz Institute Berlin, enriching the European scene for several years now. He is renowned for his stylistic versatility across nearly all areas of Latin American music and his remarkable adaptability. Millán has collaborated with many renowned international artists and, in addition to his work as a freelance artist, he is also active as a producer, sound engineer, and director of his own online drum school.
